Iman On Weight Gain: ‘I Call It Natural Botox’
Despite being a supermodel, businesswoman and oh, Mrs. David Bowie, Iman is perhaps the highest-profile of under-the-radar stars. So it’s a real treat when the 57-year-old icon makes an appearance, especially one with her wind machine-blown hair and crazy-fantastic skin in full force.
For the story accompanying her The Edit cover, the industry vet dished (as much as someone that poised can dish) on her career and her marriage — and the unforeseen advantages of putting on 12 pounds after suffering a broken foot:
“I call it natural Botox. I look at myself in the mirror and I’ve never looked younger. It’s the weight I have put on. In the West, we have become accustomed to needing to lose weight, right? But as we get older, for women especially, it makes us look a little haggard. So my consolation about this weight is that it’s given me a fresh face.”
On a less upbeat note, the mono-monikered model discussed her two-year stint as a judge on Bravo’s The Fashion Show, which she said cast “characters of how they would play in a Greek drama”:
“I had huge fights with the producers. There was somebody I wanted to get rid of because their collection wasn’t good. They’d say, ‘Well, no, we’d like to keep that person for one more episode.’”
We haven’t even gotten to the part where she’s asked if she shares clothes with her husband (“Absolutely no, no. I can’t fit in his clothes; I don’t have a boy’s body. I wasn’t built that way”), but we’re already deeply in awe of a woman who’s so in control of, and content with, her life.
Trailblazing attitude indeed.
