Isabella Rosselini Thinks Vogue Is Out Of Touch

Besides being one of the most beautiful women in the world, Isabella Rosselini also has the perhaps dubious honor of starring in one of our favorite Friends scenes of all time. Which is why when we saw that she was being featured (alongside her daughter and fellow model Elettra Wiedemann) in New York Magazine’s Fall Fashion Issue, we were pumped. And then we saw what she had to say about Vogue magazine and she won our hearts forever.

Per New York Magazine:

She finds the aging process frustrating, and not only professionally. “I don’t look at Vogue to ask what I’m going to wear. Because it’s something on a body too young. I have to look at the social pages to see women my age. To see how Amanda Burden is dressed and say, ‘Hmmm. Maybe I should try that.’ ” She continues, “They give advice to the young people: ‘If you are brunette, this color would be best.’ But I would love it if the magazine said, ‘When you are in your sixties and your neck is like this, consider wearing this.’ ”

Vogue would probably do will to take note of Rosselini’s opinion. If she isn’t part of their target audience, then who is? At least she can (presumably) afford things like $880 potato peelers.

This is one area that Harper’s Bazaar excels in with its Fabulous at Every Age feature. http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/fabulous-fashion/

YES! I keep buying Vogue and wondering why. Not only the age thing; I can compensate for that. But, c’mon, nothing is less than $1,000 — and in that range they’re talking bargains. I understand the Vogue is aspirational, but for whom? Daughter of Daddy Warbucks?

I get really tired of “designers” complaining that they can’t design for real bodies.  If they can’t do that, they aren’t designers they are illustrators.  Being young isn’t a talent.  If you are lucky, you age.  That’s the goal, isn’t it?

Agree! And same can be said for designers who “don’t do plus size”. It’s easy to dress a waif, show me someone who makes a range of women look their best.
