Anna Wintour’s Boyfriend Owes $1.2 Million To The IRS

J. Shelby Bryan, Anna Wintour‘s boyfriend of 14 years and fund raiser for President Obama, owes more than $1.2 million to the US government.

According to Texas court filings obtained by The Daily Telegraph, Bryan has been in trouble with the Internal Revenue Service since March 2006. He owes the US government $1.2 million in taxes, and has paid back $400,000, which is “on schedule” with his repayment program with the IRS. As to why the venture capitalist didn’t just pay a lump sum:

“I would have loved to have done that — if I had the cash I could have”.

The 66-year-old Texan comes from one of the state’s oldest families, and Bryan himself has had quite the background, studying at Harvard Business School, working at Morgan Stanley, and helping to create one of the first modern cell phone systems in the states. He was a major fundraiser for former President Bill Clinton, and in 1999, was appointed to Clinton’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

The Daily Telegraph posits that Shelby’s debt troubles could cost Wintour an ambassadorship, but that’s not possible considering Wintour isn’t even in the running for the position anymore. The editor has signed on for another three years at Vogue, according to WWD.
