PHOTOS: Jason Wu Is Designing A Diffusion Line To Be Sold At Nordstrom
Jason Wu, the designer who shot onto the fashion A-list thanks in part to Michelle Obama, is partnering up with Nordstrom on a younger, hipper diffusion line called Miss Wu, set to hit stores in spring.
According to WWD, the line will consist of 40 pieces priced from $195-$795 (which is a relative bargain, considering pieces from the designer’s eponymous label hover around $2,000). Nordstrom will have exclusive rights to the collection for one year, after which Wu hopes to wholesale the collection to retailers worldwide. The 29-year-old designer, who is no stranger to lower-price point collaborations, told WWD:
“Instead of just doing ‘Jason Wu-for-less,’ the idea is to explore the other side of myself. I always see Jason Wu [the collection] as my aesthetic, my design sensibility. Miss Wu is my personality. It was really fun to explore that facet of who I am — slightly more downtown, and with a more relaxed attitude.”
Inspiration boards for the line are filled with ’60s icons like Jane Birkin, and with its printed shift dresses and striped tops, the collection certainly will have a mod feel. Wu talked about wanting to reign in the edginess that pervades many modern collections with femininity:
“One thing that is rare in the contemporary market is more feminine, girlier clothes. It tends to be more hard-edged, or too young. I felt this is something that brings a little bit of softness.”
Here’s a quick preview of the collection — we expect great things! What do you think of the looks?
