Jason Wu’s New Twitter Account Is Managed By An Owl
The fashion industry has been famously slow to get in on the social media game, and until today, relative newcomer Jason Wu had been, too. But he started to dip his toe into the water this morning when he launched an official twitter account, managed by the owl featured in his logo. You’ll find him, er, her at @MissWu_NY.
“She’s sort of this phantom muse who embodies what we’re about,” he told WWD. “I thought it would be more interesting to have her perspective. Having a bird that tweets — it just seemed natural, right?”
And also clever! More than just a way to take control of his social media presence (the twitter account @TheRealJasonWu is actually helmed by some bro who idolizes Kobe Bryant), the new account is the first step in a number of digital strategy moves that the designer hopes will give him a way to justify his existence to his customers. Up next, Wu will relaunch his website with a section called Craftsmanship, which will show off how Wu’s dresses and accessories are created.
“With today’s fast fashion, it’s important to give people reasons why we are a luxury brand. I want them to see how laces are embroidered, or that what looks like ruffles from afar are actually 50 clusters of hand-sewn flowers.”
Wu will also host e-commerce on the site, plans to give away a $1,500 shopping spree when it opens at the beginning of June. You can sign up for it on his Facebook page.
