WATCH: Jay-Z Stars In The First Ever Rocawear Commercial

Half of Rocawear‘s employees may have been laid off earlier this year, but Jay-Z wants you to know the company is doing a-okay.

Today the mogul debuted his brand’s very first commercial, entitled “From Marcy to Barclays”. Marcy refers to Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects, where the rapper grew up; Barclays refers to the Barclays Center, future home of the Jay-Z-owned Brooklyn Nets. Jay’s story is indeed a compelling one, and while a 30-second clip doesn’t do it justice, we’ll take it. He explains:

“My goal was to have one gold album and that was it. And then it became, I want to show that an artist can ascend to the executive ranks.”

And as for those layoffs? “Rocawear just keeps reinventing itself and redefining itself every single day.” Hmmmm.
