PHOTOS: Jean Paul Gaultier Updates His Iconic Pieces For Pre-Fall 2013
Well, the partnership and the clothes aren’t exactly new, per se. Gaultier and the Italian production company worked together from 1981 to 1994, and Gibò even wrote a nice “welcome back” message on its website today. As for the clothes themselves, the 15 pieces in the pre-fall collection are actually re-editions of archival designs.
“It feels like a new beginning. In fashion, it’s about the sensibility of the moment, and I thought it was time to show things which are still good today and can add something extra [to the wardrobe]. But I also wanted to give young women the opportunity to have some of the shapes and pieces I’m most proud of and that are truly me.”
Just don’t expect any cone bras. Instead, wide-legged trousers, garbage bag dresses, and blazers with neoprene lining get a modern update with fresh details and fabrics. But the deal with Gibò isn’t just about the ready-to-wear; the two are planning to expand in the American, Chinese, Indian, and Russian markets. Will 2013 be the year of Gaultier then? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, check out some pieces from the pre-fall collection below:
