Is J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons Leaving Her Husband For Someone Else?
J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons is said to be in the middle of a messy divorce with her husband of nine years, artist Vincent Mazeau. But the rumored reason behind the divorce makes the entire situation vastly more complicated.
Page Six reports that the couple, who have been married since 2002, separated this summer and are currently negotiating the terms of their divorce. The two are said to have worked out a custody agreement over their son Beckett, and Mazeau may keep their oft-photographed house in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood. But whether or not Lyons will have to pay him alimony remains to be seen — a source told the column that Mazeau is seeking a “sizeable settlement,” claiming that “he gave up aggressively pursuing his career as an artist to stay at home and allow her to develop her successful career.”
And Lyons has been plently successful — her rumored $5 million annual salary and serious fashion world credibility are unusual for the head of a brand that markets itself as an “affordable” alternative to designer brands. After all, you don’t see people fawning over John Mehas or Tina Gershoff the way they do over Lyons. (We’d be willing to bet most people outside of the retail world don’t know who Mehas or Gershoff are.)
But Lyons is a celebrity — and like any celebrity divorce, the press on this one is going to get prickly. Especially because rumor has it Lyons is leaving her husband for a woman.
One of Page Six‘s various sources for this story told the column that “Lyons has fallen in love with another woman who also works in the fashion business.” We don’t know if that’s true — and we can’t even wrap our heads around who the other woman might be if it were — but we suppose stranger things have happened.
Whatever the case or the circumstances, we hope Lyons and her family will make it through this process (and the coverage of it) without too many scratches.
