Why Jenna Lyons Turned Down An Oscar Red Carpet Dress Request

There’s one designer name we won’t be seeing on the red carpet at next week’s Oscar ceremony — and it’s not for lack of interest. In what maybe a first in the history of celebrity red carpets, J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons actually turned down a request for a dress.

In an interview with ABC, Lyons said:

“We just got asked to do something for somebody for the Oscars, literally this morning. I said, ‘When are the Oscars? Two weeks? No way.’ We can’t turn samples and make really good-quality clothes on such a tight timeline. I certainly love the idea but we’re not set up that way. If someone wants to wear a feathered skirt and a cashmere sweatshirt, then sure.”

As you may remember, “a feathered skirt and cashmere sweatshirt” is exactly what Lyons wore to last year’s Met Gala — as she reminded us earlier this week. Custom dresses are great and all, but what we’d give to see one smart starlet rock a riff on Lyons ensemble next week. Just take a look and tell us if you don’t think she looks the coolest.
