Jil Sander To Show First Collection In Seven Years This Weekend
Sander is returning to her eponymous label after a seven-year hiatus, and her very first show will be for her menswear collection this Saturday. As you’ll remember, Raf Simons was unceremoniously booted from Sander’s label in February to make way for the founder. A few months later, Simons was named Dior‘s artistic director.
The New York Times reports that the 68-year-old Sander will show the menswear collection at her usual spot — the Piazza Castello showroom in Milan. The only detail she gave up about the collection was this: “I am having to bring it back to our heritage.”
Sander also talked a bit about her aesthetic going forward, and hinted at her 2013 spring collection for the ladies:
“I’m working less on decoration, more on form — pattern-making and materials, with a lot of dresses in the collection — in a good modern way.”
We’re certainly excited to see what Sander has up her sleeve, though not everyone feels the same way:
“My family asks, ‘What are you thinking?’ But if you have been working creatively, you are easily seduced to come back. No one can say: ‘I work until I die.’ I am still quite energetic. But you can’t think 10 years ahead. You have to have love and passion. The beauty is that I can be back in a company I know. I will do my best.”
