WATCH: Lady Gaga Opens The VMAs As Her Alter-Ego Jo Calderone

We were first introduced to Jo Calderone over a year ago, when images of him began “leaking” on to SHOWStudio.com. And it turns out that good old Jo has been part of the bigger Gaga picture for a long, long time. Gaga-as-Jo snagged the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan last August, alongside a faux-interview in which Gaga told the interviewer Jo was a mechanic from Sicily. And then earlier this month, Jo made a comeback as the cover for Gaga’s latest single, “Yoü & I”, which is why it makes sense, ish, that she would open the 2011 VMAs in full on drag.

What do you think of Gaga’s alter-ego? Does she do well in drag? Or is the whole thing just a little too over the top?
