Joan Rivers On Mocking Whitney Houston: ‘When She’s Alive, She’s Fair Game’
Joan Rivers is not one to mince words.
Back in May, she criticized Whitney Houston on Fashion Police saying, “Poor Whitney, she can’t reach any of those high notes anymore or the good stuff that Bobby used to keep on the top shelf.” The episode was set to rebroadcast Sunday, but was pulled after Houston’s untimely death the day before.
WWD caught up with Rivers at yesterday’s Badgley Mischka show and asked her about the comment. Her response was quintessentially Joan:
“When she’s alive, she’s fair game. It’s part of being a celebrity. Am I sorry she died? Of course I am, for God’s sake. But when she was alive we would talk about her just as we would talk about Anna Wintour or Angelina Jolie. If Angelina Jolie died tomorrow, I would still say she was anorexic.”
