John Galliano’s Racist Rant Caught On Video: ‘I Love Hitler’

UPDATE: Dior announces Galliano’s termination, effective immediately.

***

Well, less than two days after witnesses came to John Galliano‘s defense, The Sun has published a video clip of the designer telling a table of fellow patrons at Parisian cafe La Perle, “I love Hitler” and “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f*cking gassed.” He also called them ugly.

While La Perle is the same cafe Galliano allegedly assaulted a couple and insulted them with anti-Semitic remarks, it’s unclear as to whether this video was taken the same night.

The Sun notes than none of people captured in this altercation were actually Jewish, though the man filming the video told the paper Galliano seemed to have the most problem with the Italian girls. “He made it clear [they] weren’t welcome and should go home,” their source explains.

On Friday, The Cut spoke with someone who “has worked closely with Galliano on several projects.” Their source said: “[I] can’t imagine he would do this to anyone. I’m an observant Jew, and I know from my own experiences with him that there’s no way he hates Jewish people. He’s incredibly gentle.” Unfortunately, this video makes it clear Galliano would (and did) do this to someone. Whether drunk, in jest, or (inexplicably) misunderstood, Galliano’s words are offensive at best, and downright disgusting at worst.

This doesn’t bode well for his defamation case, nor the lifting of his suspension at Dior. But what we’re most curious to see is how this plays out in the press. The fashion industry has a pretty solid reputation for protecting their own — but how does one defend this?

Galliano has been ordered to meet with his accuser at the police station on Monday.

from the sound of this video, the people he was insulting had provoked him…they are enjoying his drunken rant and enticing him to bury himself even further…i hate this..this brilliant man should not be taken down by a crowd of parisian losers…i wish we knew the entire story and why he became so upset…

  • Solstice

Does anyone know WHY The Sun “just happened” to be secretly filming him when these people “just happened” to provoke him?

  • Solstice

And The Sun’s timing is even more interesting. Why would they wait three days before releasing this? Were they, perhaps, waiting for a check to clear?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Elinor-Zen/100000683916133 Elinor Zen

you know, guys, even being drunk (which is almost impossible i guess), provoked or not, i wouldn’t bash jewish (as i am jew), no black, arab, chinese or anyone else, especially in public place, cuz’ it’s NOT IN MY MIND IN THE FIRST PLACE. racism is not kind of loosing self-control, it’s a state of mind. that’s it. and to say “i like Hitler” or “your mothers would be gassed”…can you tell me how exactly something like this can be provoked????????

  • Novavice010

you’re jewish???? well, IM GAY. the hypocrisy racial groups use (ESPECIALLY JEWS) when it comes to satanic hatred against gay people is laughable. yet they have the audacity to victimize themselves when people respond to them in the same way. they clearly provoked him with their disgusting rants and only started taping when he responded to them. place this in a larger context and PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE. the people who he was insulting adhere to a religion ordering the murder of gay people as god’s will and it’s seen as holy. it’s sick, no? so you dismiss homophobia but condemn racism. there’s tension in that neighbourhood because the jews there think they own it and it has caused tension since the gays have been moving in. dont express homophobia and you wont get a negative response.

  • Bobyuk

LOL. Let me guess–you’re Galiano or his PR person–right? In case you aren’t, you are one hell of an idiot. Who cares if he was “provoked” or “drunk”? That is no excuse for him to slur such horrendous and racist remarks to random people (apparently on many, many, MANY different/separate occasions). He is an anti-Semitic asshole and he deserves what’s coming to him. Good for Dior for suspending him–and hopefully, they will fire his skinny, nasty ass for good.

ps. I love how he likes to follow by calling these people “ugly”. When one looks like freaking Gargamel on crack themselves, I hardly think they should go around calling OTHERS “ugly”. Does he not own a mirror?

  • Mariaks

Who cares? What difference does it make? This guy is an ass, and was caught. He should and will deal with the consequences.

  • ABCDEFG

WTF are you talking about you uneducated idiot? Do you even KNOW anything about the Jewish culture/religion? Perhaps you are getting it mixed up with Muslim?

You are talking out of your ass. I’m not Jewish, but I know several people who are, and they certainly are NOT supportive of “gay-killing”…

LOL, Sorry, but what IS this shit?!

  • Solstice

@ Elinor — if you actually ARE very pure of heart, and have absolutely no prejudices toward anyone or anything at all, then: bless you, dear. When I was very young, I liked to proclaim the same thing, until I found out that I WAS actually prejudiced against homophobes, misogynists, fascists and neo-nazis. Just because I thought these were “correct” prejudices doesn’t mean I wasn’t prejudiced.

In other words: let s/he who is (really) without ANY preconceived notions cast the first stone.

  • Solstice

OMG, people — can’t anyone else see what a huge set-up this was????

  • Solstice

“Caught”, Mariaks? Caught doing WHAT, exactly? Do you really believe everything you’re hand-fed by the media?

Do you think it’s possible that someone set up a camera; hired some people to berate and harass John, and film his reaction to use against him? Is it possible that they carefully edited out any evidence of their harassment and left only the reaction? Could that be part of the reason for the 3 days’ delay in dropping this bombshell?

Do you think this sort of thing is possible in a very “cut-throat” industry??

    Do you, in fact, THINK??

  • Solstice

Bobyuk, LOL! Let me guess…you work for The Sun or Dior — right?

  • Solstice

Please DO show us your proof of your fictitious “many, many, MANY different/separate occasions” of wrong-doing. Please. I’m waiting, with bated breath. Really.

  • Anonymous

Only you. 8 posts on 1 article. Set up or not, he talks that way to the wrong guy, he may end up on a liquid diet for several months.

  • Solstice

Quite so. I’m only asking if you MIGHT see something else beyond your own perspective. Yes or no?

  • truefacts

The people he was verbaly abusing were not Jewish , it was they who filmed it not someone from The Sun,…People like John Galliano, Mel Gibson & Charlie Sheen are Drunks and then you get the real personality of these celebreties you worship

  • Anonymous

    I see you need help.

  • Solstice

I think you should ask yourself why you feel it necessary to attack ME, sweetness. Why do you think that is?

  • sn

    “you’re jewish???? well, IM GAY.”

    trumped.

  • Ariel

Really? “Especially Jews”? You believe Jews have “a Satanic hatred of gay people”? Wow! Galliano’s troubles aren’t the result of Jews having a “Satanic hatred of gay people”.
His troubles are alcohol blotting out the filters, opening the flood gates and showing who he is inside.
People don’t suddenly spew hatred because they’re merely drunk. It has to be inside them.
It wouldn’t matter if he was provoked. So what? It doesn’t justify an anti Semitic rant.
You believe Jews adhere to a religion ordering the murder of gay people?
You need serious help in conquering your astonishing ignorance.

  • Mtlrob

he is gay and Hitler did to gays what he did to Jewish people.

  • derek

anyone who says he loves Hitler and that people should have been gassed is a disgusting, racist pig, no matter how much he may have been provoked!

  • lauragirl

I guess you’re not sympathetic to what happened in the Holocaust, huh. Check yourself, please. A CREEPY, UGLY MAN LIKE THAT–YOU LIKE HIM TO HAVE A JOB, BETTER THAN APOLOGIZING AND WANTED HIS UGLY SELF KICKED OUT OF THE JOB. That’s not an accident, or just drunken talk. It has to be deep within you. WHAT THAT CREEPY, CREEP UTTERED WAS PURE EVIL, HATE, EVIL, HATE, SICK THINGS THAT ONLY HIS SICK MIND CAN INVENT. EVERYONE HATED MEL GIBSON FOR A LITTLE THING–THIS GIANT, HELL HOLE IS A LOT WORSE, NO.. THE THING IS, IT WASNT JUST JEWS–BIG THING WAS GAYS, HELLO. 12 MILLION FOLKS DIED. 6 MILLION WERE JEWS. LANNON, UR A TERRIBLE PERSON IF YOU BELIEVE LIKE THAT..ONLY THING, BLESSINGS SO YOU WILL GET BETTER

  • lauragirl

HELLO. YOU REALLY NEED MORE PROOF THAN WAS UTTERED AT THE PARIS HOTEL? Talking like that just one time, drunk or sober, is enough…He more than hates Jews, and the gays were also gassed during the Holocaust–he’s be gone too..

  • lauragirl

Oh, it IS a big deal, and we were told WHAT. This man would have been offed at the Holocaust too–12 million people were killed, only half of them were Jews. Artists, gays, whoever. Please sound a little concerned, in case it IS THE truth. I can look at him, and tell you what he’s like when he’s drunk. If someone says those things, drunk or not, they’re still a sick, sick rascist pig. Marijuana should be legalized, not liquor…or maybe it’s a good thing, that people finally found out…

  • lauragirl

You’re kidding right? To answer them with those remarks–I don’t think so. You obviously dont care a bit of what happened to 12 million folks during the Holocaust. 6 million were other than Jews. Gays, Gays, Artists, did I mention Gays. He’s be gone too. Please think again, go to the Holocaust Museum, and see if you feel the same.

  • lauragirl

I think you need something to do…You’re still harping on the Sun….What if HE UTTERED THOSE WORDS–THEN WHAT WOULD YOU SAY–PRETEND TO CARE A LITTLE BIT, OK. NOT THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE ANY FRIENDS YOU CAN SYMPATHIZE WITH. YOU COULDNT HAVE ANY JEWISH FRIENDS OR SYMPATHIZER FRIENDS. BLESS YOU, AND FIND A HOBBY

  • lauragirl

READ ELINOR ZEN’S COMMENTS. SHE EXPLAINS IT SUCCINCTLY. AM I RIGHT IN A
ASS UMING THAT YOU NEVER LOST A LOT OF FAMILY TO THE HOLOCAUST. I DID–MAYBE YOU CAN STOP NOW…VISIT THE HOLOCAUST MUSEUM…OH, AND FIND OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS CREEPY GUY BEFORE YOUR FINAL COMMENT…

  • BBandit

maybe it’s just a wind up, some people use controversy to seek attention or if they are cornered, and often shock for affect, I think someone jewish pissed him off and he got drunk and said a regretful remark. Homophobia is often allowed in society and not treat as a hate crime, and it should be, people should think twice about abusing someone, and the law should protect everyone regardless of creed, colour orientation.

  • Mccansasglen

    in vino veritas my dear

  • Ian

We all say things we really don’t mean, especially when drunk and provoked (possibly even set up). Far from “gassing” anyone, Galliano didn’t lift a finger to harm anyone – that’s the reality of it – the rest is complete self righteous nonsense from people with zero imagination. Galliano was in a verbal “fight” and normally, in a country free of real Nazis we have the freedom of speech to say as we please as long as we don’t threaten someone. Freedom of speech means that we tolerate things we don’t like to hear. The only stunning thing here is the complete level of intolerance shown by the ranting self righteous PC brigade. France has anti-Semitic laws which contravene the principle of freedom of speech – but that’s because they have a deep problem with their own genuine collaboration with the Nazis from WW2. Galliano was NOT anti-semitic in any way. He was not even interracting with Jews or Arabs – he did not break even France’s laws. He said he “loved Hitler”. Aren’t Christians taught that Jesus loves everyone? Stop the bigotry and clean up your own act people!

  • Divinemelody7

How many Palestinian children are dying everday in Gaza?.My ancestors owned Norway 2000 years ago maybe i should go and steal the land back huh? you loser wake up!!!

  • osdgnkin

because the media stocks every famous person on the planet are you new to reality?

  • Eihhfei

the media can’t just play up some kind of joke about the holocaust for attention …were talking about hitler you’re such a low blow

  • Pjpenn

well I don’t work for the Sun and I don’t love or agree with genocide of a race but if provoked I would say whatever hurt the provoker the most..if it be “I love hitler”. I’m assuming the provokers were of some culture besides white. I think he crushed his opposition with his comments, with motivation to hurt back and did well. He was caught on top because you don’t see what they did to provoke him. What I do hate is any time hitler comes up everyone is there to defend there cultural groups or sexual preferences…. pretty much anything that didn’t promote nazi regime was an enemy and target. Bottom line I think that John was stating he wished the provokers existed in hitlers time so they could be humbled with a little gas. I think the worst thing about society today is words have become worse than popping someone in the mouth. I’m guessing it wasn’t johns camera that filmed, clearly an instigated set up.

  • StepanAndreevich

There are some profoundly unfeeling, unthinking people commenting here. He may not have broken any laws, but saying “I love Hitler” and alluding to the gassing of millions, for most people, is a serious moral transgression.

It worries me deeply that people are coming out in his defence. I hope that it’s at least because they like his work, and not because they sympathise with his views.

  • Taylor Genovese

I’m guilty myself of saying things that will destroy another person emotionally when I am provoked. But what that is really saying is, I was somewhat defeated. Whatever it was that was said to me must have really really bothered me that much for me to allow some of the nasty & vile things that have come flying out of my mouth.

Now these things were not antisemetic or racist, but, nasty nonetheless. VERY mean spirited and foul.

Later on, I would revisit what I said & generally feel pretty guilty about it & also embarrassed. Not in all cases, but alot, I have offered up a sincere apology for my words & of course at that time it would be up to the person to accept my apology. The apology would be sincere and I would not blame that person for what I said. An apology is generally pretty much cancelled when you say “I’m sorry for what I said to you, but, had you not provoked me blah blah blah”. While it may be true that these things would not have been said without being provoked, that is still no way to offer up a genuine apology.

The only time I would make mention of the provoking, is if we entered into a discussion about it so that I can better “explain” my actions. It’s not an excuse, its an explanation. Other than that, I like to just apologize (if I feel its nessessary) and leave it at that and up to the other person to decide whether or not they wish to accept my offer.
