Galliano Now Facing A Second Complaint Of Anti-Semitism
An unnamed woman has come forward to report that Dior designer John Galliano made anti-Semitic remarks toward her last October at Paris’ La Perle, the same cafe in which he was accused of hurling similar slurs at a couple just last week.
This weekend, London’s The Sun posted video of Galliano declaring “I love Hitler” in the cafe. But the paper noted that it wasn’t clear whether this video was taken during the recent incident, during which he is believed to have quarreled with couple Géraldine Bloch and Philippe Virgiti, or a separate occasion.
Galliano was suspended from all professional duties at Dior, where he is creative director, after the incident last week. We don’t recall the October episode being reported and the video is difficult to date in light of the two allegations happening in the same location. But if we had to guess we’d say it didn’t belong to the most recent incident. An eyewitness said Galliano didn’t make anti-Semitic remarks against Bloch or Virgiti or anyone — at least not this time around.
The Associated Press reports that the designer walked into a Paris court about two hours ago to face Bloch, his accuser. He filed a defamation suit against her and Virgiti after their allegations turned this fight into an international news story and got him suspended from his job. Police ordered Galliano to meet with his accuser last week.
And while it’s sad to see such design genius fall in such a spectacularly public and embarrassing fashion, this video might just be the nail in his coffin.
Galliano’s runway show during Paris Fashion Week is scheduled for March 4. There is no word on whether or not it will be canceled.
