Is Galliano’s Next Move Designing For Cross-Dressers?
In the history of fashion collaborations there are some pretty weird pairings, but Disgraced Designer John Galliano x Cross Dressing Stephen Fry makes Kate Hudson and JustFab seem like it was preordained since the beginning of time.
It’s just a tasty wee rumor at this stage, but The Telegraph reports the two to be “in talks”. Galliano is one of three designers being considered to the British actor for his stage role as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Ernest, which opens in spring or fall next year.
Apparently Fry is also throwing ideas around with Sarah Burton and Roland Mouret. We can almost see him now dolled up in one of those splendiferous mountains of Catholic excess from Burton’s Fall 2013 collection, though Galliano may have the stronger resume. In 1982 he worked as a dresser to Dame Judi Dench when she played Lady Bracknell at the National Theatre.
Numerous industry types have already voiced their support for the shamed Dior designer. But if anyone’s Q score can counterbalance his it’s the guy responsible for getting 3.5m people an air kiss from Brad Pitt. If Galliano gets the job, it will be his first solo project post-scandal. And if he doesn’t, it will be the second post he’s been robbed of this year.
