The (Newly Single) Julianne Hough’s Serious Style Evolution
When Julianne Hough first emerged on the scene (by way of Dancing With The Stars), it wasn’t always easy to distinguish which of her sartorial choices had been made by Julianne the Dancer, and which had been made by Julianne the Human. There was lots of glitz, lots of self-tanner, and lots of hairspray. Fine for the stage, not so fine for real life.
But now that there’s no more Ryan Seacrest in the picture — condolences on the recent breakup, you two! — let’s take a look at how wildly Hough’s style has improved within the last few months, most notably on the red carpet, where she’s become a fashion fixture…and not just because her famous (ex) boyfriend is its virtual doorman.
While her choices may not have universal appeal, you have to give Hough credit for consistently choosing riskier ensembles, in bold colors and with the kind of panache to them that hearkens back to her DWTS costumes (but in a good kind of way.) A neon one shoulder Kaufmanfranco gown with an asymmetrical cutout at the Rock of Ages premiere? We could have done without the lopsided topknot, but the dress was hard to ignore. And the deep red and plunging neckline of her CFDA Awards look were right on the money. Eat your heart out, Seacrest.
