Julianne Moore’s Talbots Ad Gives Us Mixed Feelings

On the one hand, Julianne Moore is a beautiful woman who would look good in anything. Well, almost anything. On the other, this photo of her for Talbots is pretty (everything shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott is pretty), but the dress she’s wearing in it has some members of the Styleite staff feeling less than inspired to run to the nearest Talbots store and start laying a smack down on the recession. It is cool that the campaign uses Moore’s celebrity in a really subtle way, and she’s not half as Photoshopped here as she was in those Bulgari ads. We don’t know what to think. Is the ad pretty, or just pretty boring?

I agree that the dress is blah. But the rest of the ad is pretty. I’m on the fence about the whole thing.

I voted YAWN because the ad is gorgeous but the point of an ad is to advertise to me a product; that dress is not grabbing me. The colors and flowers serve only as embellishments, but I sure wouldn’t go to Talbots for flowers.

It is very pretty, but she looks like she’s 12 years old. Although this ad doesn’t remind me of Talbots at all. Talbots reminds me of where my grandma shops. This looks more like a teen or young 20s store ad.
