Karen Elson Agrees, Nothing Bad Can Ever Happen at Tiffany’s
Karen Elson might be a bit of a bohemian, but she enjoys dripping in diamonds just as much as the next girl. In fact, when it comes to accoutrements, she admires none-other-than Elizabeth Taylor, the queen of over-the-top jewels.
We caught up with Elson at the storied Tiffany & Co. flagship on Fifth Avenue — you know that place where Holly Golightly would breakfast from time to time — as the crimson haired supermodel hosted a fashion week fête for the brand’s new Atlas Jewelry Collection. Being that she’s the face of the campaign, she told us what she loves most about the roman numeral motif collection, as well as why she admires Taylor’s colossal jewelry collection. Not to mention, she got candid about the Truman Capote novella that propelled Audrey Hepburn to iconic fame and made Tiffany’s a monument of New York City.
What do you love about the Greek mythology inspired Atlas collection?
It is the strength of the collection that resonates with me and the effortless, versatile style of the Roman numerals.
What about these pieces makes them so timeless in your eyes?
Atlas is so modern with strong and bold design that at the same time portrays a clean style and femininity. Whether I’m running around New York City for fashion week, traveling abroad for a shoot or spending time with my family, there are pieces in the collection that transition seamlessly and add a chic, bold statement to my outfit. I’ve been wearing a gorgeous pair of mini hoop earrings from the collection that I really love. I am also completely drawn to the hinged bangle that I am wearing in the campaign image — the strong lines and contemporary design of that bracelet are simple and elegant.
Whose style do you admire most in terms of jewelry?
I have always thought that Elizabeth Taylor had the most exquisite jewelry. Obviously she is iconic, but jewelry always held a personal connection to her which I can relate to. I certainly don’t have the amount of jewelry that she owns but I like collecting certain pieces that have meaning.
Are you more of a silver or gold girl?
I love to mix and match metals, with Atlas coming in rose, white and yellow gold as well as sterling silver, there is a great opportunity to have fun and layer the jewelry.
What’s one of your favorite dripping in Tiffany’s diamonds moments? As a face of the brand, we imagine you’ve had more than a few.
Shooting the Blue Book Collection – the was fabulous! I wore a 175 carat Morganite necklace fashioned into a diamond bow!
We’re at the Tiffany flagship, which inspired Breakfast at Tiffany’s, did you read the book?
I have read the book, and I have to agree, nothing bad can ever happen at Tiffany!
