Kate Middleton Taps Treacy For Royal Wedding Hat Duties

When we think hats, we think Philip Treacy. The brilliant milliner was a close friend of Isabella Blow, can count Lady Gaga as an intern and makes the most kick-ass headwear around. Now he’s been tapped to create some awesome hats for the royal wedding, also known as the Most Important Wedding of Our Time.

Rumor has it Camilla Parker Bowles recommended Kate hit up Mr. Treacy. Treacy designed Camilla’s headgear for her 2005 wedding to Prince Charles, and Kate wore one of his creations a few years back at a Sandhurst ceremony celebrating Prince William‘s completion of basic training.

The Daily Mail quoted an “impeccable source” (how funny is that phrase?) as saying: “Philip has taken numerous phone calls from the Duchess of Cornwall since December and he was summoned to the Palace to meet Kate. Camilla and Philip have remained friendly since he designed for her and the respect is mutual. Philip thinks the Duchess has great style.”

Just when we thought our excitement for the April 29th nuptials had already reached fever pitch, this happens. There’s no word on if Treacy’s making Kate’s veil, but it sounds like he’ll definitely be making hats for “senior members of the wedding party.” We hope this includes Queen Elizabeth, though we suppose she’ll have to wear a crown or something. (Also, we kind of, sort of called this back in November.)

We’re supposed to call Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall now? What sort of a comment is that? She IS the Duchess of Cornwall.

Philip didn’t design that hat of Camilla’s. He designed the one she wore to the reception afterwards.
