Royal Style Smackdown: Kate And Queen Elizabeth Duke It Out

Today both Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton (er, Duchess Catherine) attended events and wore things. QE2 went to a service at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff, while Kate went to a reception for the Scott-Centenary Race in London. BUT WHO LOOKED BEST?!

We’ll be judging this contest by assessing five very important categories:

MATCHINESS
Liz: White dress, coat, and hat; black shoes, bag, and gloves
Kate: Navy dress, jacket, shoes, and clutch
Winner: Kate

HAT
Liz: A jaunty almost-tophat that matches her outfit
Kate: N/A
Winner: Liz, by default

BLING
Liz: Pearl necklace, earrings, sparkly brooch, hat pin
Kate: A single ring (as far as we can tell)
Winner: Liz

MAKEUP
Liz: Neutral eye, bright raspberry lip
Kate: Smoky eye, neutral lip
Winner: Liz

WALKING COMPANION
Liz: John Lewis, Dean of Llandaff
Kate: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge
Winner: Liz (that cape!!!)

The overall winner here is quite clear. Better luck next time, Kate!

Put Middleton in QEII age appropriate dress and I’d argue the Queen looked better. She was a fashion icon in the 50′s and 60′s and has maintained her sense of style sense. She’s earned the benefit of a 50/50 split.
