Sarah Burton Is Odds-On Fave As Royal Wedding Speculation Continues
This whole royal wedding dress thing is crazy. FULL-ON CRAZY. How has nobody spilled the beans yet? Are British people just really good at keeping secrets? Why do we care so much? WE CARE SO MUCH. So. So. Much.
The big event (which WWD is calling K-Day…!) is going down in less than three weeks, and we still have no clue who is designing the damn gown. And apparently this is “to protect Prince William from knowing anything about the dress — something all brides do on their wedding day.” What?! This is nuts! He so doesn’t care! But did we mention that we do?
Bookmaker Paddy Power‘s latest odds have Sarah Burton at 1-25 (which our math-inclined friends tell us is very, very likely) while Bruce Oldfield is at a much less likely 4-1. According to Women’s Wear, the front-runners are Oldfield, Catherine Walker, and Daniella Helayel, Alice Temperley is a maybe, and Burton is the wild card. Conversely, they claim Phillipa Lepley, Anna Valentine, Erdem Moralioglu, and Vivienne Westwood are definite nos.
Of course, The Dress isn’t the only dress that needs designing. There’s also Kate’s party dress, and the bridesmaids dresses, and Pippa Middleton‘s dress, and Camilla‘s dress, and so on. So many dresses could mean so many designers. Fun! Fashion fun! OMG, just tell us already!
