WATCH: Kate Upton’s Congressman Uncle Says He’s ‘Very Proud Of Her’

Victoria’s Secret might not want her to walk in its annual fashion show, but as far as Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl Kate Upton‘s uncle is concerned, she’s a “great gal.” And her uncle just happens to be Congressman Fred Upton, the Republican representative of Michigan’s 6th congressional district.

Upton (Fred, we mean) told Fox News today that he’s been getting a lot of jokes in the halls of the Capital building from fellow members of Congress, asking whether or not he was adopted. (He says he isn’t.)

“Her dad, my brother, we live in the same town. We do a lot of stuff together,” Upton continued. “It’s been fun to watch her grow up. She’s only 19, but we’re all proud of Kate.”

Fred is the Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and votes pretty strictly to the right. Last year he voted against the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and identifies himself as a “pro-life Member of Congress.” Being conservative and being OK (and proud) of your teenage niece for dressing very unconservatively in a national consumer magazine aren’t mutually exclusive, but they don’t often go together.
