Pro-Anorexia Site Calls Kate Upton ‘Lazy’, ‘Lardy’, And ‘Fat’

In totally predictable news that sends us right back to middle school, some anonymous woman on the virtual playground that is the internet called Kate Upton fat.

And she didn’t just come out saying, “Kate Upton is fat.” Her attack was much more vicious, and included gems like this:

“Did you know that humans are 80 percent genetically identical to cows? Well, allow me to prove it to you…Guess who?! Yes, it’s the lovely Kate Upton, confidently lumbering up a runway like there’s a buffet at the end of it.”

You can read the full post on Skinny Gossip, which sounds a hell of a lot like a pro-anorexia site to us, but here’s a particularly pointed excerpt:

“Huge thighs, NO waist, big fat floppy boobs, terrible body definition – she looks like a squishy brick. Is this what American women are ‘striving’ for now? The lazy, lardy look? Have we really gotten so fat in this country that Kate is the best we can aim for? Sorry, but: eww!”

While we may not be proponents of Kate becoming a high-fashion model, girl is anything but “lardy”. And the statement this anonymous body-shamer published after her post only added insult to injury. We will just present this one without comment, so you can let the full impact of the irony waft over you:

“As a thin person, I was annoyed by our double-standards around weight. For example, people think nothing of telling a thin woman—to their face, in front of an entire group of people—how skinny they are and even to suggest what they should eat.”

Gothamist also found a cache of “Starving Tips of the Day” that have since been pulled down. The author’s explanation can be found here.

While we kind of can’t believe that we’re defending Kate Upton, we also feel that girls have to stick together and stop bashing each other’s figures before anyone else stops body shaming us. As a wise woman (Tina Fey) once said in a cinematic masterpiece (Mean Girls), “You have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.” PREACH.

Tired of the media turning women into toothpicks! Men want some T&A not to see your ribs. We do not care if your a size 4 or a size 18 as long as we wont be crushed when you’re on top. the makers of all these sites and other crap that says women are too fat need to try and eat something at some point this year then they wouldn’t be so cranky from hunger and they might like how they look.

I wrote about Skinny Gossip a while back on my blog. Several members of the site have contacted me trying to convince me 1)they aren’t pro-ana, and 2) being catty and mean to other women is normal. I posted their comments on my blog. It is really scary that these women believe what they are saying. Sites like this are so harmful and do such a disservice to women. They took down their “starving tips” because of all of the negative attention they have been receiving. They were also hacked into and the site was down for awhile. While I don’t condone illegal hacking, I do believe sites like this shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

If you guys want to be seriously disturbed and traumatized, spend a few hours perusing that site. The community has managed to convince themselves they’re purporting female empowerment and sisterhood through supporting their collective preoccupation with dieting, appearance, and superficiality. And offering up some bullshit “benevolent” excuse by their fat shaming as “looking out for the greater good of America through curbing obesity and conspicuous culture”. Also bemoaning the woes that beautiful, skinny women have to endure by being subjected to comments about their weight by society’s fascist “pro fat agenda”. Nelson Mandela has nothing on that oppression.

Honestly, it’s downright scary how far people will go to justify and rationalize their cruelty and destructive behaviour. My only hope is when those girls are older and less preoccupied with their image, they’ll realize the extent of the hatred and misogyny they’re purporting.

Exactly – now as a legitimate style site ( you’re welcome ) YOU need to stop giving one more minute of attention to this disturbed little website. When you wrestle with a pig you just get dirty and the pig likes it – or something like that. ; )
