Despite the general public’s designer-collaboration fatigue, stars like Michelle Williams, Kate Mara, and Maggie Gyllenhaal came out to celebrate Kate Young’scollection for Target in New York City.
The space inside The Old School (for the uninitiated, that’s a trendy downtown event space that was actually once a school) was transformed into a ‘prom’ complete with boutonnières being tied to guests’ wrists at the door, models posing as lovey-dovey couples, and a faux gym covered in wall-to-ceiling balloons and streamers. The amount of star power inside the venue was obvious from the number of photographers and reporters clumped together on the red carpet. Yours truly was unfortunately three people deep in the line-up, but that just meant more time to check out the wares and celeb-watch inside the fête.
One room was being used to showcase Young’s party ready wares. Racks of dresses and cases of accessories were on full display, and quickly being snapped up by guests. I had my eye on the Peter Pan collared dress, but apparently so did everyone else since I couldn’t find my size.
After doing some more shopping, I headed over to the fake gym, which was definitely the spot to celeb-watch; Erin Wasson was deep in conversation in one corner, while Jason Wu was chatting up a friend in another, and Williams, Mara, and Gyllenhaal milled about like BFFs on the floor. Yep, it was prom alright.
