WATCH: Katy Perry’s Elle Cover Was Inspired By Every Style Icon Ever
The vibe we were getting from Katy Perry’s Elle cover was an awesomely grunge-glam, fierce high fashion MySpace bedroom shot, which is convoluted enough. But the vibe they were going for is even more of a mash-up.
In this behind the scenes video of Katy’s shoot the stylists, makeup artists, hair guys and former Smurfette herself talk about their style inspirations. It’s pretty much just everyone involved throwing around the names every buzzy trend and icon ever, including but not limited to Judy Jetson, the character Lolita, Jane Birkin, a beatnik and Angelina Jolie.
We weren’t getting much of any of those things originally, but a closer look has alerted us to some smoldering ‘60s eyeliner that manages to call mind both Edie Sedgwick and Solange. There’s also a very Françoise Hardy hat that we would have loved to see make it to the cover – which, in comparison to all the potpourri of decades being discussed, actually seems pretty tame.
Brush up on seven decades of pop culture icons in the behind- the-scenes video below.
