Kimora Lee Simmons Announces Resignation Via Twitter
Simmons helped get the company off the ground 14 years ago with then-husband Russell Simmons. She became its public face and best promoter. She starred in various reality shows that revolved around her role as the company’s head and was regularly featured in its ad campaigns. And from the tone of her tweets, she didn’t make the decision to leave of her own volition.
In fact, it seems, the Kellwood Company, which has owned Baby Phat and its sister brand Phat Farm for seven years, has pushed her out. The company also owns Vince, Xoxo, Sag Harbor and a variety of other fashion labels.
From the information available to us, there’s no indication who will replace Kimora. But she tweeted that she will “always create fashion” because “that’s my heart.”
To that end, she tweeted in response to another follower that she’d be creating fashion under the labels Kouture by Kimora, KLS and Fabulosity, the adjective she’s made an integral part of her brand.
Kimora will officially leave the company on Sept. 1.
