Rodarte Designs Costumes For Kirsten Dunst’s New Movie

Last month, Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte announced they’d be designing the costume for a ballet in Darren Aronofsky’s new film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. It turns out this wasn’t their first foray into cinematic fashion — Daily Front Row reports that the Mulleavy’s designed the costumes for Bastard, a short film written and directed by Kirsten Dunst.

Dunst told The Daily:

“Kate and Laura pretty much styled and chose costumes on the set. The colors for the film required a very specific color palette and the girls also had a very special input in Juno Temple’s look because her character is so quirky. It was just so incredible to work with both of them in this manner.”

The fact that the film required a very specific color scheme is pretty interesting. I found a still from the movie which I’ve included below. According to TribecaFilm.com, Bastard is the story of a young couple in crisis who “find their way to a desert motel. Three odd men plan to meet them for reasons that seem unbelievable.”

I couldn’t find much else about the film, other then a few details she shared with V magazine:

Dunst remains tight-lipped about its subject matter, saying only that the film is “a two thousand-year-old religious tale told in a modern way.” It was filmed in the desert, and a baby was involved, but don’t expect The Passion of the Christ. Bastard is decidedly less literal. “I didn’t want to shoot the desert in a desert-y way, but more in a Woody Allen way,” the actress explains. “And we took a lot of inspiration from Paris, Texas.”

Bottom line: I’m a huge fan of Dunst, the Mulleavys, and am pretty pumped to see this movie. You?
