Did Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Lose Weight For Vogue?
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has lost more than 40 pounds since she started serving her post in January 2009. Gillibrand has gone from size 16 to 6 (and sometimes 4!), and appears in Vogue‘s November issue. She even showed off her fabulous new figure at Fashion’s Night Out, dancing with one of her aides. But did she do it for Anna?
No, we don’t think so, given that the bulk of her weight loss seems to have occurred before February of this year. But if she was coaxed by Anna, she certainly wouldn’t be the only one.
In her infamous 60 Minutes interview (you know, that one where she said people in Minnesota look like little houses), Wintour admitted she asked Oprah to shed a few:
I went to Chicago to visit Oprah, and I suggested that it might be an idea that she lose a little bit of weight. I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trooper! She totally welcomed the idea, and she went on a very stringent diet. And it was one of our most successful covers ever.
We don’t think this was the case with Gillibrand, who tells Vogue that changing her diet and playing tennis helped her get back her pre-baby figure. She also used a nontraditional strategy, reports the New York Post:
Gillibrand gave away all the clothing she’d worn before her pregnancies with her two sons packed on the pounds.
She recalls telling herself, “I’m going to give away all my clothes because I want to start fresh and I wanted to reward myself; if I ever get back to that size, I can buy new clothes. I gave away every stitch of clothing that I was not wearing.”
