Here’s Why 2012 Can’t Officially Start Without Lady Gaga
Our future depends on the Mother Monster. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has selected Lady Gaga to push the button that starts the countdown into 2012 during the annual New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square this weekend.
We already knew Gaga would be performing on Dick Clarke’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest this year, but we didn’t know she’d actually be dropping the gigantic Waterford crystal ball that rings it in. It’s a huge honor for Gaga, and it would be a huge honor for anyone, really. She joins a small group of people who have had the honor of officially starting a new year that includes Bill and Hillary Clinton and Muhammad Ali.
The event will also be covered by virtually ever major news outlet in the country (including Styleite!) so odds are it’s going to be a pretty big fashion moment for her. We wonder how long it would take Waterford to make a scale version of the ball for her to wear? Check out photos of the 2012 ball here.
