In Case You’d Forgotten, Lady Gaga Is Taking Over Barneys For Christmas
Oh. My. Gaga. When Barneys announced that it would be collaborating with Lady Gaga on a holiday campaign and shopping space, we had no idea that it would be as high-concept as it’s turned out to be. But rest assured: Gaga’s Workshop is going to be one of the coolest seasonal shopping experiences ever.
And we’re not just saying that because we’re total little monsters — everything about the collaboration seems so considered. Women’s Wear Daily reports that over 170 holiday themed items made specifically for Barneys and informed heavily by Gaga’s memories of being a kid on Christmas morning will be sold at the retailer’s New York flagship store. From Nov. 21 to Jan. 2, the store’s fifth floor will be transformed into a sculpture with eight stations selling everything from lobster claw Christmas stockings to handmade chocolate skulls.
Barney’s collaborated on the workshop with Gaga, her stylist buddy Nicola Formichetti and a handful of artists and manufacturers to bring everything together. But Formichetti told WWD that none of it would have gone over without the help of the original Mother Monster, Gaga’s mom Cynthia Germanotta:
Gaga’s mandate, according to Formichetti, was to make the workshop “amazing and fun, for kids and for adults. She was very much involved in coming up with the ideas and overseeing the whole process, but I also got her mom, Cynthia, involved,” he said. “She knew Gaga’s favorite chocolates or her favorite books when she was little. We really wanted this experience to be like going through her memories, in a very surreal way. For that, I needed the help of Mrs. Germanotta.”
After all, isn’t being what your family what the holidays are all about? If your answer is, “No, they’re about giving back,” fret not. Barney’s is giving 25 percent of the profits from Gaga’s Workshop to Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation. So everything is for a good cause!
If you can’t get to New York City to experience Gaga’s Workshop, don’t worry. Most of the products will be available online, and the store is giving away 30 Golden Tickets to bring fans to the store — you can find out more about the concept’s offerings and how to win a trip to the Workshop here.
