Lady Gaga Sued For $5 Million In Racketeering & Corruption Case

You know those bracelets Lady Gaga has been selling to benefit Japan‘s disaster victims? Well, some lawyers in a Detroit suburb are suing the popstar for $5 million, alleging that the whole thing is a scam.

This entire lawsuit sounds pretty ridiculous. First of all, the lawyers that are suing Gaga work for a legal network called 1-800-LAW-FIRM. Shady-sounding, right? They claim Gaga is guilty of racketeering and corruption, and that she’s pocketing some of the proceeds from the sale of her “We Pray for Japan” bracelets. Their issue is that Gaga charges $5 for the wristbands, plus a $3.99 shipping fee (though Gaga’s website actually says it’s $5.99); they believe that money is not in fact going to charity. As such, they say she’s “violated consumer protection laws in every single state.”

But these 1-800-LAW-FIRM people don’t have any actual evidence, and a case like this is exceptionally hard to prove. Of course, that didn’t stop the ridiculous legal analyst over at Detroit’s local Fox affiliate from jumping on the story a mere two-and-a-half- hours after the suit was filed. We can’t imagine Gaga is too worried about this, and she’s also no stranger to legal woes. Last year an ex-boyfriend sued her for $30 million, claiming he was the one who coined the moniker “Lady Gaga”, and earlier this year Gaga sued the makers of “Baby Gaga” breast milk ice cream.

Watch the news segment below. Do you think justice needs to be served, or that this whole thing is bogus?

  • Gaga is a Crook

Obviously Lady Gaga is a cheap money monger who is willing to take money from anyone even if there whole life was just destroyed. This shows just how corrupt successful people are in our country and because of this i think we should become a socialist state.

  • Naderabed1995

hello, you got it all wrong. Lady Gaga loves Japan and she even prays for Japan to recover. That is why the wristbands are for charity.

  • Aplejammer

The legal system is for citizens to get a fair judgement, not for uninformed goofballs jumping to conclusions about something they couldn’t possibly have the facts about.

  • michaelDetroit

This is a very valid lawsuit, i wouldn’t personally blame the arist, i would blame whoever is micromanaging her financial accounts, specifically this account dealing with the bracelets

  • Anonymous

……OR is not a monger..you have no idea the story, ever, unless the big Girl in the sky, comes and tells you, Herself!! So, just educate or meditate or..haha  peace…its all entertainment til proven, dont be hatin…

  • Andrew Nguyen

You’re such an idiot. You’re “assuming” that Gaga would do something like this simply because of the fact that you don’t “like” her. I’m glad that inane fools like you don’t work in the legal system because you would jump to conclusions about everything.

  • Gohiro

This could be valid, depending on how the proceeds are allotted. Doubt Gaga knew about it per se,but you have to be careful what you put your name on!  BTW…she settled that suit with the ex,and he got his money or so it is said!

  • Anonymous

So a couple of ambulance chasers came up with a get-rich-quick scheme for themselves even though they don’t have the competence or standing to sue? I guess 1-800-LAWFIRM must need publicity because that’s all this suit is…a publicity campaign. All retailers charge more in shipping costs than it actually costs to ship something. As long as the advertised purchase price ($5 or more because donors had the option of increasing the amount of donation) went to Japan Relief, there’s no fraud or racketeering involved.  If these were competent lawyers, they wouldn’t have filed a bogus lawsuit in the first place. Where is their evidence? What proof do they have?  Unless they audited the account for this fund raiser, they have nothing but a libelous allegation. I hope Gaga countersues them for defamation.

  • Anonymous

It’s not valid unless they have evidence of racketeering and fraud. To have such evidence, they would have had to have audited the account for the bracelet charity drive and proved that the shipping charges went to Gaga, directly or indirectly. I’m sure they have no evidence whatsoever. This is a publicity stunt for a firm that’s nothing but a bunch of ambulance chasers, bankrupcty and divorce lawyers. Most retailers overcharge for shipping costs. Why aren’t they suing other merchants for racketeering?  And btw, I ordered three bracelets and the shipping costs were close to the $3.99 cost charged.

  • Profesor_x

It’s ashame that the press would lend themselfs to report something like this with a tone of condemnation when there not even a shred of evidence for this. For God’s sake this low budget law firm does not even have the facts straight. They are just trying to get some publicity and the media helped them do it.  Hope they get sued in return and get their firm shut down as it should be.

  • Joelhughesbarrett

Wow… unbelievable. She already gave some of her OWN money, aside from the wrist bands. ($1.5 Million) Fox News is dumb. Haha.

  • http://twitter.com/13LittleMonster Tifani Fenmonster

No he didn’t… he dropped the suit against her.

  • http://twitter.com/13LittleMonster Tifani Fenmonster

Just another case of haters trying to defame Gaga and make money at her expense. Gaga loves Japan. Have you seen her tattoo? She’s very emotional about the whole situation and anyone who thinks she’d steal/embezzle money has obviously never been to Monster Ball. She hates money.

  • John Galt

Right. She hates money so much she gives all of it away right? She refuses all profits. She LOATHES money. I bet she doesn’t even spend ridiculous amounts of it on her “wardrobe” either. In fact, I heard she doesn’t charge anything for her CDs because she hates money so much. She just gives them away for free…

    You are an idiot.

  • Lauramcd0109

    Hilarious!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NAY5A2CANBX4GFPHAIMD75KDGU Leader Guy

    fuck you john galt .

  • Anonymous

It’s called hyperbole. Look it up. Anyway, who is John Galt?

  • http://twitter.com/wavyJACKS jacqueline frances

This story is so unbelievably laughable. Are you kidding? 1-800-LAW-FIRM? Definitely sounds like the lame a– lawyers that publicize themselves on those ridiculous, cheap commercials that air every day.

If people are actually buying into the fact that Lady Gaga personally would pocket money from a bracelet meant to benefit Japan, then you must be naive, gullable, and an idiot (and should probably stick to watching and believing EVERYTHING that Fox News reports).

  • http://twitter.com/wavyJACKS jacqueline frances

You, sir, are the idiot. She actually does hate money, and if you weren’t so QUICK to judge a person based on their looks and fame – then you would understand. Then again, it takes a person that isn’t so gullable and naive to do so.

  • http://twitter.com/wavyJACKS jacqueline frances

    Well said.

  • http://twitter.com/wavyJACKS jacqueline frances

“This is a very valid lawsuit” — based on what? LOL. No evidence? Riiiiiight.

  • William

Her record label trying to get back the money they lost on her album, lol. Gaga did say she’s bankrupt and owes money to her label because of her deal.

  • S_Johnson

All lawyers are ambulance chasers? Great logic there. I retained 1-800-lawfirm for my 16 year old daughter who passed away from a pulmonary embolism that is a direct result of the birth control she was taking. They can’t bring her back but they can sure as hell make these evil pharmaceutical companies pay for what my family and so many like mine have gone through. But to you I guess I’m just a greedy moron.

  • Windrider2

No, you’re not greedy and not all lawyers are ambulance chasers but 1 800 LAW FIRM has a history of doing exactly that.  AND the two lawyers that filed this lawsuit are bankruptcy/divorce lawyers with no experience in class action civil litigation. It’s clearly a bogus lawsuit done for publicity and free advertising and, hopefully, a big paycheck for them. I think given the fact that Gaga has donated $3 million to that Japan Relief charity is pretty clear evidence that if anything, she has shelled out far more than the bracelet project has taken in.

I’m sorry about your daughter and I’d be furious too. Good luck with your lawsuit.  I sincerely hope you win but unfortunately, embolisms are a KNOWN and well-publicized side effect of birth control and I’m surprised that 1 800 LAW FIRM didn’t tell you that because it certainly impacts your chances of winning the suit.  I take 13 medications, all of which have potential side effects that I know of.  I freely choose to take those risks in the hopes that I won’t be one of the unlucky few because the needed benefits outweigh the risks.

  • Windrider2

No, she countersued and he dropped his lawsuit.

  • Windrider2

Up until the middle of last year, Gaga put all her money back into her show. A year ago, she was bankrupt. The Monster Ball finally went into the black after a year of no profits. She gave away tens of millions of dollars to charity last year, and has given over $3 million to Japan Relief so far this year.  For artists of Gaga’s calibre, the designers are usually beating  down her door to GIVE her their fashion to wear, or in the case of Donatella Versace, opening up their archives to allow Gaga to wear Versace’s last designs as a memoriam to him.  And no one makes much money off CD sales. The real money is in the touring and Gaga always gives a percentage of the gate to charity.  Of course she makes money and a lot of it. Which makes this lawsuit all the more preposterous.  Why would someone who grossed $64 million last year skim a few thousand bucks off of shipping & handling charges for some $5 bracelets. That would be stupid and Gaga didn’t get where she is by being stupid.

  • Windrider2

Gaga was bankrupt in 2009. She didn’t start to turn a profit until last year, because she put all her earnings into the show. She has a 360 deal with her record label, which means Interscope gets a percentage of EVERYTHING Gaga earns…merchandise, records, tours, endorsements, EVERYTHING. Last year she earned about $64 million, and gave a lot of it away to charity.

If you read the statement from the law firm, this lawsuit is purely a fishing expedition. They stated that they filed the lawsuit to determine WHETHER any improprieties had occurred, not because they knew that there WERE any improprieties.  And what happens when it turns out that there were no improprieties AND that Gaga donated more to Japan Relief than the bracelet project took in?  What then? The law firm has slandered her all over the world, will waste several hundred thousand dollars of tax payer dollars for the courtroom trial, and will have wasted however much money the plaintiffs spent to hire them in the first place…all just to find out WHETHER anyone did anything wrong at all?  I hope Gaga fires a multi-million dollar defamation suit and bankrupts these weasels.

To who is she praying? To Juda?? First she sing satanic songs, and after that she prays. Good one
