Lady Gaga’s Rebellious Philippines Performance Could Land Her In Jail

Lady Gaga didn’t receive a warm welcome in Indonesia, and she’s not feeling the love from the Philippines either.

According to the AFP, the pop star arrived in the Philippines on Saturday to a mixed crowd of fans and protestors. Around 200 Filipino Christians marched in the capital city and held signs that read ”respect our faith, stop the blasphemy” that day; nearly 500 protesters gathered near the concert venue in Manila on Sunday. The Christian community is specifically upset about the song “Judas”, which they claim is offensive and mocks Jesus.

Orlando Cutaran, head of the Christian Professionals Evangelism Fellowship told the AFP:

“We are a peace-loving people, our objective is not to make any violence or destruction to get attention. We don’t want to interfere in their business. We are just praying on the sides that the organizers will change their minds. We are just taking a stand against the blasphemous songs and videos of this Lady Gaga. We don’t want young people to be influenced by this.”

Gaga’s producers released a statement that promised her performance would “not pose a threat to their sense of morality and conduct”. However, at today’s performance, Gaga told the crowd “I’m not a creature of your government, Manila” and then sang “Judas”.

That act of rebellion could cost her. According to Philippines law, those who offend race or religion can be sentenced to prison for up to six years, though Grazia notes that no one has been convicted recently. Fingers crossed!

Where were these Catholic nut heads when the scandals concerning priest molesting young boys broke out? Were they protesting then. Hypocrites!

hey Cor and Mary Lindstrom, its exactly this kind of attitude that make makes something wrong justified because people always dwell on counting each others’ sins. All of us are hypocrites and self righteous jerks, because all of us, including priests and lady gaga are HUMAN. If someone, be it lady gaga or a child molesting priest did something wrong and didn’t get punished for it, that doesn’t mean what they did wasn’t wrong. Both are in the wrong and I believe those protesters were just being vocal about protecting those who can’t think for themselves..those are the impressionable minds of youth who will not benefit from lady gaga’s example of disrespect to others’ religion, country and culture.

That still doesn’t answer my question. And let me see, molesting young children and singing songs in a mini skirt…doesn’t really fall into the same category, does it?
