Will Lady Gaga Grace Vanity Fair’s September Cover?

The opening line of WWD’s Memo Pad report on Vanity Fair’s September issue is laugh out loud funny.
“Move over, dead people,” writes Nick Axelrod. He is, of course, referring to last year’s September issue which bypassed Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and January Jones for the more news-pegged dual cover of the late Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. (We’d also add their Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy covers as examples.)
Sources say that Vanity Fair has plans to put a certain Fame Monster on the cover of their September Style issue, which is to say: Lady Gaga. Naturally, VF spokespeople had no comment, other than the non-comment, βItβs our policy to not talk about future covers or stories, whether we are or are not working on them.β
We’re surprised Gaga hasn’t graced a VF cover yet, considering their proclivity for pop icons like Robert Pattinson, especially since — don’t kill us, Twihards — we’re the first to argue that Gaga carries a little more gravitas than a novel about teen vampires.
We’ll put our money where our mouth is and call this one a done deal.
