Lagerfeld Honored By French Government
The week has started off with a bang for Chanel‘s Karl Lagerfeld. Yesterday, news broke that the designer would be the official photographer for the world renowned Pirelli Calendar, and this morning, after yet another flawless collection at Paris Fashion week, Lagerfeld was informed by French President Sarkozy that he will be honored by the French government and made a commander of the French Legion of Honour.
The “Légion d’honneur” was founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is considered to be the highest honor in the country. Mr. Lagerfeld’s title of Commandeur places him in the third echelon, in the presence of other fashion greats including Giorgio Armani and Valentino.
