Transsexual Model Poses Nude In French Vogue (NSFW)

Riccardo Tisci‘s Fall 2010 Givenchy ad campaign served up a significant amount of water cooler discussion among the fashion industry. And it wasn’t because the clothes were particularly racy. Rather, it was Tisci’s model casting that was cause for discussion. Alongside Mariacarla Boscono, Malgosia Bela and Joan Smalls stood Lea T, the designer’s transgendered former assistant.

Contrary to those who believed the casting of a transgendered model was a gimmick, Lea T. has become a veritable fixture in the fashion world, walking in Givenchy’s haute couture show and posing in last month’s Italian Vanity Fair.

Now, French Vogue has decided to feature Lea T., completely nude, with only her hand barely covering her genitals. We could talk about the cultural impact the shoot has, what people’s reactions may be to seeing a transgendered woman in a largely circulated magazine… but instead, we’ll leave it short and sweet:

Lea T. looks absolutely stunning in the French Vogue shoot, her hair cascading delicately, her face appearing strong, yet vulnerable, staring directly at the camera. Her lips rival Esther Canadas‘ and her eyebrows remind us of Natalia Vodianova‘s — which we think equates the perfect facial structure for a top model in the making.

Which suggests public opinion is shifting towards an acceptance of individuals traditionally perceived as outcasts. Or could it just be French media has decided to ingratiate traditionally vilified persons to the public.

    ugly+pc=beautiful. I don’t think so.

  • disgusted

Let me start by saying I have no issues whatsoever with transgendered folks or transexuals. However, let’s be freaking serious here. This is not a “former man” here. This is not a picture of a “she”. This is a man, who looks effeminate and dresses like a woman and has breasts. Do not pretend otherwise until his ding-a-ling is gone.

It is one thing to be open minded, PC, modern and all of that stuff, but to be blind, or to pretend is taking it just a bit too far. Grow up people.

  • equinoxa

I think that is excellent, she is beautiful.

“disgusted” (using that as a username?!), if that person wants to call her/himself a she, that is up to her. Maybe she wants to be thought of as a female, feels female, yet doesn’t want her tool chopped off. I don’t think your exterior genitalia should define you so much…We keep it under clothing most of the time. Kind of like–I have a disability, but I don’t want everyone to know it. It’s only relevant when I have to do certain kinds of tasks. If I say nothing, no one might know at all. Of course, she is letting everyone know by being in the photo, but if she wants to be a she, let her. It is harming no one.

  • hardly surprised

I’m thinking she’s probably not the first, just the most honest. Most female supermodels tend to have masculine features and body shapes as compared to most other women. The more androgynous a potential model looks, the more likely they will be chosen for contracts.

  • http://lisabayer.blogspot.com Lisa

This is not in good taste at all. As a mother, and as one who fancies herself as creative and somewhat stylish, this is pure rubbish intended to shock readers into buying. In true fashionista form, let’s see how many sheep rave about this. As a friend of at least one transgendered person whom I adore, this is embarrassing for her I’m sure as it exploits her to the max.

  • jeess

i’m open to anything, but “disgusted” is right, that’s a HE. s/he still has male genitalia therefore making s/he still a he, breasts does not make one a woman…. seriously.

  • hmmmm

His face will always look like a “he.” It’s in the eyes.

  • Srqdude

    …but a penis makes one a man?

  • dating and loving a transgirl

Seriously “Jeess”, get a clue. Read up on transgenders / transsexuals / intersexes before you make a dumb comment like that.

  • Anonymous

She’s got balls (literally) for doing this shoot nude. So many trans-gendered women are ashamed of their male parts before having them removed. I think this is sending a really positive message to people in her situation.

  • http://twitter.com/mervina89 Mervina

Omg this is sooooooooooo weird. I don’t have a problem with people who decide to change their body to suit what gender they want to be, but this freakishly weird scary all that tied into one. Eww omg.

  • Bree

Okay, saying “Let me start by saying I have no issues whatsoever with transgendered folks or transexuals” does not excuse you from saying something that is completely contrary and insulting. Gender is not about what kind of plumbing you have. This is a woman, this WOMAN identifies as a woman, so she is a woman. Do you realise how risky and expensive bottom surgery is? There are a lot of reasons why she wouldn’t have had it done yet. This is not an effeminate man, and to say that is disgusting. This is a woman.

  • Joe

It was her choice to take the job and do the posing, I don’t think you can consider that exploiting. She knew exactly what she was posing for. What may be considered exploiting her however would be you saying she was “exploited to the max” to help lend weight to your opinion that it is “rubbish”

    Bree, you are blind . . . And very stupid . . .

  • Iconian

For quite some years I have been very confused about this sort of stuff. I still strain my brain to understand, but there are some things I feel I can say with a lot of certainty. I don’t think it’s right to call Lea T. a woman, or refer to him as a “she.” I say this simply because of the definition of male and female. I went to dictionary.com, and here’s the definition of female:

    –noun
    1.
a person bearing two X chromosomes in the cell nuclei and normally having a vagina, a uterus and ovaries, and developing at puberty a relatively rounded body and enlarged breasts, and retaining a beardless face; a girl or woman.
    2.
an organism of the sex or sexual phase that normally produces egg cells.
    3.
    Botany . a pistillate plant.

It does seem that there is some degree of a continuum of gender, because what about hermaphrodites–people born with organs from both sexes? And I think more importantly, what about people who feel their whole lives that they belong to the other gender? Until more recent times people’s lifestyles were largely dictated by the fact that women are generally less muscular and give birth to children, where men are larger and more muscular. Women as stay-at-home moms made a lot of sense. Men as hunter-gatherers who provided the family made sense. But more and more to me it just seems that those roles aren’t valid as they used to be.

Best I can tell, the most universal indicator of male and female is chromosomes–two X’s for female, an X and Y for male. I think that’s a pretty baseline standard to determine what a person is. As far as I know, no one has come up with anyway to change a person’s baseline chromosomes. Unless there are huge advances made in science and medicine in the future, you will always be able to test a person’s DNA to determine if they are a man or a woman.

But even so, the fact is that at one time people didn’t know about chromosomes, and since then humanity’s knowledge of science has grown to where the dictionaries now actually have a definition that is reliant on chromosomes. But what would a dictionary 500 years ago have said though? Probably that male and female is dependent on the sexual organs.

My point is that our knowledge of how reality is changes, and sometimes we have to change our views of things along with it. If the Jewish/Old Testament view of things simply doesn’t work anymore, now that humanity knows so much more than we did, and now that modern medicine and surgery have the ability to change the typical attributes that used to define whether a person is male or female . . . then I think something has to change. If there is a God, perhaps one day he will help man understand these things. Perhaps that’s one thing Christ will clarify in his second coming . . . assuming there even is going to be a second coming. Maybe the commandments Moses was originally going to give the Israelites talked about such things.

I think it’s good to try to teach people self-restraint, and help them gain a knowledge of science and the world around them, to empower them to deal with the future. Maybe that’s what God was trying to do with the Israelites, assuming God even exists. But at the same time, my feeling from the Old Testament is that God was quite the tyrant, and repressed a lot of the things people wanted to do. In my experience, when you repress and repress and repress people, or even if you repress your own feelings and desires, there comes a day of reckoning where your act of repression comes back on you one way or another. I guess I say this mainly to Rach. Maybe God had his reasons, good ones even . . . but if in truth he really is good and loving and caring of humanity, then in the end he’s going to be much more interested in whether people are happy and feel joy in their lives, than whether or not they obey and conform to his rules.

I think that whether Christians and people heavily influenced by puritanism want to believe it or not, there are people who felt from a very a young age that they were, or ought, to be part of the opposite gender. Sometimes it’s a choice, sometimes there are environmental factors that contribute to it, and sometimes people just feel different from the start. Humanity needs to figure these things out. I think there’s a whole lot more to it than we understand.

Rach, I think that your view on right and wrong and these things is oversimplified. I think that if there really is a God, then things are a whole lot more complex than the basic Christian view.

But still, I don’t know exactly what to think about these things. I think there’s a lot that people just don’t understand. Personally, I am a man, and I am strongly attracted to women, and if there was a man who dressed like a woman and looked like woman that I were to date or something, but later after I came to like them a lot I discovered it was a man, I would feel very betrayed. So on one hand, I feel bothered that there is a man who is being promoted as a female model–someone that people are supposed to look up to as model for feminine beauty, but is actually a man. But I can understand that perhaps it has been Lea T.’s dream for some time to be a model, and to be a female model. Should the typical Christian views on that sort of thing destroy this person’s dream? I think that if there is God that loves us then his ultimate goal would be to do his best to try to help us. I would think his most important goal would be to help people become happy. If this is what makes Lea T. happy, and it’s not really hurting anyone, then I really have to wonder why it would be wrong, or go against God’s laws. Maybe there was a time, when people barely knew their hands from their feet, that he had to lay down the law and enforce it, as a parent might need to chastise their child for running out in the street, concerned that they’d do it again and get run over.

I think maybe the important thing here is a question of intent. I don’t know what Lea T.’s personal intent with this is, but I feel pretty certain that the intent of the media that has picked up this story and run with it is to just promote the hell out of transgender people as much as possible. I really don’t like when it they try to shove this sort of thing down people’s throats. Is this supposed to be some sort of image of beauty for the world to respect? I really don’t think that an actual woman who looked like this person would get nearly this much attention. Because if you gave me a picture of Lea T.’s face, told me it was a woman, and asked if I felt it was beautiful, then I would say it is not beautiful. We have different shows and such for male and female models, don’t we? Maybe the best thing would just be to let the transgender people have their own separate modeling show. Or at the least, I think they should stop trying to pass these people off as a gender their chromosomes say they are not, and not give them special attention for being transgender–attention they wouldn’t be getting if they were plain male or female, without the modifications.

I don’t know what to think about these things, except that I believe there are more pressing issues for humanity to address right now. People are starving around the world, America and other nations are having to deal with many unjust and repressive laws, there’s waste and inefficiency, and it seems that corruption practically fills the government to the brim. First I think we need to deal with reigning in our politicians, our businesses, our religious leaders, educational institutions, and other such problems. When I read through the Old Testament, what I gathered was that there was a lot more condemnation of murder and rape, of leaders oppressing and taking advantage of widows, orphans, and the poor people, judges taking bribes and not rendering justice to those who had been wronged, and priests and politicians deceiving their followers, than there was condemnation from God over peoples’ sexual orientation or gender identity and such. I think we ought to be more concerned with the bigger stuff that people pretty universally agree is wrong, such as various leaders who don’t care about the well-being of their followers, and deal with the more controversial stuff later. Maybe along the way the answers will become clearer.

  • May Baker

A penis is a primary sexual characteristic, breasts are a secondary sexual characteristic, so it’s not an apt comparison. I would think that what makes a man is a to be XY genetically and no inherent female characteristics. If someone is born male and decides to change but keeps the penis, I have a harder time thinking of that person as female. Transgendered or as some refer to transgendered persons, a third sex, yes, but a female, period, no. I have done reading on this issue. Perhaps further reading would change my perception. Who knows.

  • Not Buying It

If this is the new image of a beautiful woman, we are in serious trouble. This man is confused and unattractive. He has complete masculine features and from first glance, looks just like a man. He is thin and small for a man which is perhaps why he choose to embrace a feminie lifestyle….who knows. Who cares. As far as modeling goes, if he can get hired to model for a designer and promote products~ good for him. I don’t look at his outfits and think he is by any means wearing it in a way that would inspire me to purchase the item (from a consumers perspective). In fact, knowing he is a man dressing up as a woman would more likely, cause me to NOT purchase. This isn’t about if I care if he wants to live life as a man or woman but an article about this man being a symbol of the new female model and trying to model clothing that would make me, as a consumer purchase the items~ That answer would be a resounding, Hell No! The dude does NOT look like a lady….even if he does try to cover his balls.

  • ER300

How can you divert your eyes from something that the world wants in your face? I am a true believer that men are men and women are women. God created man in His image. He made Man and Woman separately for one reason and one reason only. Our world is so terribly confused. I am sad for this Man. I see sadness in his eyes and confusion. I am a respecter or all people….I do not agree with hate speech or anything of that kind, but people….this is a lie.

  • http://sophware.myopenid.com/ sophware

Some people are born with both testes and a vagina. Some people are born XXY. Some female athletes aren’t as “female” as you might define. If a man gets in a car accident and loses his junk, he’s still a man. He doesn’t suddenly have to be attracted to a different sex. He doesn’t have to change his opinion on wearing dresses and growing breasts. If *he* wants to do those things and wants me to call him a she, I won’t fall apart or get upset.

The not-so-simple truth is that there are differences between how we identify, what our genitals look like, what our secondary characteristics are, and what our XY chromosomes say we are.

If all of this is too complicated, if we are to ignore the 70 million people for whom this is a tangible reality and ignore hundreds of millions who know about it, fine. I don’t have any trouble understanding @StupidBree or the rest of the people like him/ her.

I also don’t blame the complexity of the world on @Bree, nor do I think her approach is any stupider than ignoring it.

  • http://sophware.myopenid.com/ sophware

Change your perception to what? It’s not completely clear from what you wrote that you have a clear complete perception.

You say “what makes a man is a to be XY genetically and no inherent female characteristics.” Obviously, you aren’t covering those who are XY, genetically, but *do* have inherent female characteristics. You single out and resist the people who are XY with female characteristics that weren’t inherent.

If the important thing here is to keep things simple, go with “A penis is a primary sexual characteristic, breasts are a secondary sexual characteristic.…” After all your reading, though, I’m guessing the cat is out of the bag — you know it’s not as simple as yes/no.

What I do with that grey area is accept things like inter-sex and trans-gendered people’s decision to call themselves one thing or another. You and I will continue to do a double-take when we meet people who were clearly born a man, but choose to wear a dress and go by “Jennifer.” Do you really want to argue with Jennifer about it? There’s nothing wrong with having “a harder time thinking of that person as female.” …as long as you realize you can do it anyway.

  • http://sophware.myopenid.com/ sophware

Are you sure we were in perfect shape with the “image of a beautiful woman” before Lea T? Kate Moss and many others have been encouraged to have the body of a 10-year-old boy. Does that do it for you? If so, OK. Personally, I like Latin curves and women who look like women. That doesn’t mean I need the rest of the world to have my sense of beauty. …and I only think *some* of the people who like Kate Moss have latent pedophilia.

Pretty much everyone is photoshopped these days, and therefore is somewhat fake. If we digitally make Lea different, could that fix it for you? Augmentation, makeup, botox, lipo, hair removal, and on and on.… There hasn’t been a real woman behind our image for a long time now. If you are only turned on by woman as nature made her, you are in a very tiny minority with me.

  • castro

he is a he . that is true. he has tea bags but… you have to admit you are a little aroused. that is why so many people dont like it. being aroused by something or someone that is different can be scary and weird. i’m turned on. they look good . plain and simple. especially on the runway. which counts the most. rest assured though, the female models will have a problem with their territory being stepped on when more transexuals get in the game . which will be inevitable. now its a game but soon it will be serious

Biologically speaking Lea is a male, but socially I do believe Lea is a woman, ie, her gender is female. It’s not like she will expose her male parts to a passer-by in everyday life; and she identifies herself as a woman. These two points alone already convinced me enough that Lea is a woman.

And when it comes to biological sex it gets too fancy, there’s phenotypic sex and genetic sex, and whoever said they take anybody with Y chromosomes as males must be really clueless about testicular feminization; it’s not that simple.

I agree with those who praise Lea of her courage.

Lea T. is what used to be called a hermaphrodite. He/She is a male and a female. If society would accept them, they would probably feel less need to surgically alter themselves. But if they identify more with one or the other sex, that should be heir choice. I’m sure it’s not an easy one to make.

Lea is who she is….and she is attractive (to me anyway and beauty is in the eye of the beholder BUT it’s also been scientifically quantified…I think it’s a ratio thing). The fact she has a penis? It is what it is. Soon she won’t (if she has her way and the court approves). She’s not alone. What are the statistics for transgenders now? Live and let live. And her personal life? I hope she finds happiness and someone to love her for who she is and is becoming, which is what I hope we all want for each other.

You can not change how you were born. this HUMAN being is Beautiful no matter what, We need to stop acting like u are either a boy or girl. A woman has a womb. If you have a womb, you are a woman. I don’t care how you feel, how things look or how you were or were not born. The distinction between a man and a woman is the ability to give birth to a child through the birth canal and in order to do that, a woman MUST have a womb. This guy does not have a womb. I hate to say it, but there will be a day when he wishes that he could have his old self back again. maybe he will, maybe he won’t but we need to stop lying and trying to pet this type of conduct. He chose to act, look and carry on in this manner. Cut and dry nothing more. This is a man. Like it or not it’s a boy!

  • VICC

When a baby is born, the Doctor will declare male or female. Boy or girl. Not one doctor has slapped a baby on the butt and sad GAY or transsexual, the baby is a boy or girl. If the baby has a set of male and female sex organs as you state; then if that baby has a WOMB. There is no mistake about it, the ability to carry a baby to term during pregnancy makes one a woman, not a man. like it or not that is fact. I refuse to call people stupid, dumb, blind or otherwise. People are entitled to their own opinion, however we have to face the facts, not agree to the facts, just face them and form your own opinion about the facts.

  • whosghurtingwho

she is completing the surgery~~~she still has psych visits left and more hormones to take~~she said today she is completing the transition and she was gorgeous!

  • Chris

Biologically, yes, Lea T is a man, but sex and gender are completely different things. We refer to people as their gender, not their sex, and thus Lea T is a woman. Saying that she will regret this is sheer ignorance, and intolerant to the transgendered cause. Cisgendered people are lucky to have their gender match their sex, while transgendered people (if they wish) must take an extra effort to reach that. I want to reinforce the statement that gender is based on how one feels, not on how one looks. She is a beautiful woman, like it or not, she’s still a woman.

  • Chris

Gender is not a black and white thing. People aren’t that simple and I’m proud to be so complex. Honestly, if you’re upset that Lea T is not a “real woman”, you need to get over it. Her gender doesn’t affect you, just as your gender doesn’t affect me and my gender doesn’t affect you. She’s beautiful and by getting her face out there, she’s just living her dream. Hopefully someone out there, young or old, will be inspired by her story and chase their dream no matter what social barriers they have to cross. At one point in history, black slaves were not treated as human beings, but that’s all changed. Hopefully the world can open their eyes to those who aren’t cisgendered, and from Lea T’s success, I think we’re already on that path.

  • Dianamv2

As another transgendered individual, I respect her so much for coming out as transgendered. I live my life everyday as a woman and no body questions what I was born with for the simple fact I dont go around pulling down my pants to show everyone.

All I have to say to all the haters calling her a man, look at yourself. Not only are you being childish but hurtful. Judging someone by the way the look or born is not only hurtful but discriminatory. It’s like calling a gay man a fag (which still happens in everyday life) or a black person a nigger. (as it still happens in everyday life) I live my life as a female and if someone holds the fact that they “know” whats in my pants and they know who i “really” am is silly. My life does NOT revolve around my gender, it is reflected by the accomplishments I have made with my life and the person I have become.

I myself am terrified to come out as transgendered to people for these simple reactions I have seen over and over in these comments. It is society its self and close minded people who cant see past the skin. I cant wait for the day a flawless beauty comes around and she is still pre op, and there is no denying she is a woman. MEN DO NOT HAVE BREASTS, and some women are born infertile, does that make her any less of a woman because she cant have kids? NO…

And for all you people being scientific and using the dictionary, really? Are you a scientist and understand everything about DNA and understand with the millions of strands it only takes one to make that person dynamically different from someone else. I dont think so. So if you would like to ask a doctor, she is a girl, despite what is in her pants. Im sorry that this country (U.S.A) is so close minded and can only think that people who fit into society’s norms can succeed. Why yes, it does make it dramatically easier, but isnt it the ones who fight hard and I mean really hard the ones we should admire. I’m sorry but alot can be learned from this woman.

  • Fact

Mental illness, that what it is.

  • J-RO

What about women who cannot conceive? Are they any less of a woman? “MUST have a womb”. Ridiculous. This is not the first transgender we’ve ever seen. This is nothing new. Lea T identifies herself as a woman and has done so all her life. More power to her for having the strength to live her true life, as the woman she is.

  • Never2low99

I personally don’t agree with the sex change transgender stuff but if that’s what someone wants to do whatever. What I can’t stand is when someone like this is called a her, woman, female or whatever else. It’s a guy with breasts that he had to take pills or shots to get. His own hand is full of Twigg and berries. It’s not a female. Same as that crap about the first man to have a baby that was all over the news. That still was not a man. I don’t care how many operations a person has. They will never fully be the opposite sex physically.

  • Oksana

this is silly. everybody has mood changes, not every women gets their period or can conceive, and some women don’t even reach menopause. Those are just things that are just entailed with being a women for most, but those are not the things that define what being a women is. it’s a lot more complex than that.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2RLFV36D3FDAYP4K736AES43Q WomanWithin

the ability to carry a baby to term during pregnancy makes one a woman, not a man. like it or not that is fact.???????

Do you live in a cave? There are many a woman who can not get pregnant for medical reasons…I for one. As much as I would want to have a child; if I had one as you, I’d send it back. Humans have compassion which you seem to be void of. BTW; if your reasoning “was” correct and you were not able to get a woman pregnant…..you want us to believe that would make you a woman? ROTFL

  • Godwtihin

    who cares? So what?

  • Traci

transgendered does not = female …

  • transgirl

Isn’t it MEN has more of the mothers chromosemes when they are in the mothers womb or it stops to a certain age or something? Transgender people has been around since the Spartacus times. We just have to simply respect how people wants to be known as. As far as i know the given sex doesn’t mean it has to match one’s identity to themselves. In the medical testaments the boy/girl is identified based on the sex. But we are not all born the same yet not too different from each other. I feel for Lea. People like her deserves acknoledgement to be respected how ever they want to be seen as. You don’t call someone Christina if that person wanted to referred as Chris. It’s a mutual respect.

Live and let live. We are here but for a short time; if we consider it from the beginning of time, it’s a blink of an eye comparatively. Her choices do no affect me. Nor do they you. Think about it… they really do not. Though we are all entitled to an opinion; unless we could step into the mind of another, we, none of us can truly understand the thoughts, feelings, desires, happiness, pains, etc., of another. Those are for her to satisfy in the blink of time she is here to enjoy her life.

The bottom line is.. here is Lea T, waloking the runway and the show stopper for Jean Paul Gaultier! All of you dissing Lea T probably cannot even afford a bead OFF THAT DRESS SHE STRUTS IN!! Get a fucking life and so live your boring lives!!!

  • Alyssa_smith_95

this is man in the process of turning into a woman. the fact that you said “let me start by saying i no issues whatsoever with transgendered folks or transexuals” isn’t an excuse. to start with that and then completely bash the woman after is just immature.

this person did not feel comfortable in his body, he felt as though he was born in the wrong body and wanted to be a woman. but so what? every single person is entitled to their own right and beliefs. think of it as someone wanting to lose weight, are you going to completely disrespect them? no your going to tell them “good for you”. well its the same general idea for this WOMAN. she wanted a change so she went ahead and did what she beleived was the right thing to do.

needless to say you have no right to say these thing.

  • http://twitter.com/DanaLaneTaylor Dana Lane Taylor

How many ‘men’ do you know that would turn their penis into a vagina? You would have to be a woman prior to going through something like that. You at least have to agree with that, right?

And when you say you have no issues with TG/TS folks then proceed to show the issues you have with it is a bit funny.

  • Bel

Actually, doctors do slap quite a few numbers of babies on the butt and say….. hmmm, not sure. There is plenty of information, yes scientific, about the number of hermaphrodites born. Yes, enough that it even has it’s own name. The continuum of how we identify ourselves both biologically and emotionally is a lot more nebulous than most people think.

  • Coco Brown

Bree sometimes people can’t think straight when they are upset and as a result, they tend to say incorrect statements. Gender is clearly defined by your “plumbing”. No matter what your brainwaves lead one to believe and feel inside. It doesn’t stop that person from being male or female according to their genitals. Rather you have reconstructive surgery or use tape, whatever genitals that you were born with determines/identify your sex–male or female. Even after surgery that person may look according to their need, but at the end of the day they are still the gender that they were born. Male/now woman– will never give birth to a child and female/now man– will never produce sperm to naturally impregnate another woman.

  • dragonslayer

sex and gender are two different things but even so we are all human why does it matter? are you just interested in knowing what genitals a person has so you know if you should be attracted to them or not? she has a dick now, but after she gets surgery will that really change anything?

  • Tcraw10506

According to some people those of us born with defects that make us both male and female or either are not allowed to live our life as we know we are. Do these people live their lives the way they are. Welcome to the really real world and not some fantasy world you were taught to believe. You were taught the wrong information.

  • Sky

Alright so i just have to add something here, people keep trying to say that God made only man and woman or that its not natural. Tell me how do you account for the hundreds of thousands of animals that are in nature that exhibit either intersexed or spontaneously change from one sex to another? Did God not make those? They are certainly part of nature.
Secondly if God only made man and woman then what about the hundred or more intersexed conditions? People born with characteristics of both sexes, having xxy or xyy chromosomes, or AIS; Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome? Did God not make these people as well?
And for those of you who arent aware AIS is where genetically the people are XY and yet because their body cannot processes Androgens they are born with a vagina. They grow up often times not knowing about their condition until puberty when they never have a period and often times will have stomach pain due to testicles that have nowhere to go. These women look like women, have both first and secondary sexual characteristics of women and yet genetically are male.
Now is it so hard to believe that God, who loves diversity, and creates peoples like this would not also allow for individuals that mentally feel and to some degree function as one sex while their bodies develop as another? And no this is not a new phenomenon, as far back as history can record their have been transsexuals. Does this make them genetically female, perhaps not, but i would still argue that these women are as much female as any genetic girl.
Gender is not a set rule. Their are many women that behave more masculinely then many men and visa-versa.

  • deb

I respect people for what they are and what they aspire to be, there should be no judgements on other people’s lifestyles.

  • Stop.

I am a gay man that does not find transgendered indviduals a turn-on. That being said I think that Lea T is beautiful. There are so many different ways people live and not all are a choice. This genetic boy-girl argument is pointless and wastes precious time that we ought to be using to understand one another. Remember, allowing someone else to live their life does not require or signify “approval”. Until you have been in any one persons shoes, you have no idea of their struggle. Those that bring up God, let Him decide what is right and what is not. That is not your job. Your job is to be the best person that YOU can be and learn to love and accept those that may be different from yourself. Again, this does not require approval. Human energy in general is both male and female and it actually alludes to a mental condition when this is not acknowleded. Even on a hormonal level we all have both Testosterone and Estrogen. No one made you jude, jury and executioner for anyone.

  • Trina

I think she is beautiful and brave for being who she is. I was born a female, and I cna tel you that a very young age, 5 or 6, I had strong feelings of wanting to be a boy, from being attracted to girls to sticking sox down my pants . This condition is something one is born with I promise. I would gladly be “normal” and be attracted to men and have a family, but that would not make me happy.

  • Waytogo

This woman could be your sister or even your wife! You are one intolerant soul. Should you be judged so heavily in society? Just because a woman does not have a period… – you are really naive. Many woman never get periods or have kids. YOU are a jerk, and no surgery would ever change that.

  • Waytogo

Way to go whomever you are!

  • henny

this is hands down, my dream girl. holyshit.

  • Acwalley

This is sad people. You can’t deny what is factual. You may choose to ignore it or disguise it as something else, but facts are facts. The cool things about facts are that you don’t have to debate or argue your point. I can say hey just look it up. So for those of you who seemed easily confused or persuaded, I am going to give you the simpliest way to figure what determines male and female. Go to or find the nearest dictionary; If you are online, there are plenty of free ones and look up the defintion of gender. The answer is sex, then you need to look up and define sex. There’s your answer…there’s your facts.

  • i’m a zebra

does this mean that if I say i’m a zebra I am one?

  • i’m a zebra

does this mean that if I say i’m a zebra I am one?

  • i’m a zebra

Best response I’ve seen here. Good job Iconian.

My thing is, can I say I’m a roach and be one? Can I say I’m a cow and be one? Can I just say I’m a bird a become one? Clearly the answer to all these are no. If I decide to identify with something, some animal, that I am not, I may identify with that animal, let’s say a bird, all day long, but it won’t give me the ability to fly and lay eggs. Period.

I would never disrespect anyone who wishes to identify with something other than what they are, but in the same token, I would never look at someone who tells me they are a penguin and not raise an eyebrow. I think to bash Lea T. is wrong. But I think to bash anyone who is making logical statements is equally wrong. Lea T. will never grow ovaries. Leah T. will never be able to carry a child.

A woman who is incapable of carrying a child does not change the fact that she is a woman. Her internal reproductive structure is what makes her a woman, not the fact that she may not be able to have a baby for medical reasons. Lea T. cannot be compared to a woman who is unable to have a child because something is wrong with her FEMALE organs; Lea T does not have any female reproductive organs that are malfunctioning. So it is very different.

Bottom line, I’d like to be an owl, but no amount of sewing feathers on me, cutting out my female genitals and cutting my eyes into big circles will make me an owl. Can I identify with being an owl and ask that people call me an owl? Sure. But if someone is allowed to identify with something they are not, then I think all people in insane asylums who say they are Napoleon or Jesus should be released and left alone to identify with what they wish to identify with. Maybe just like Lea T. they really do believe they are what they say. Maybe they knew their whole lives they were Jesus, or a bear, or a praying mantis. Why call them crazy and give them medication but then get upset when others say Lea T. is not a woman? Is it because it’s sex? Dunno, but folks should reconsider how they view this, because then they would need to reconsider all people locked away for identifying with things the culture thinks they shouldn’t identify with.

We can’t have it both ways.

  • Evolved

ER300, last century called and they’re wondering when you’re going to come back. The sooner we can unite as a race and leave behind organised religion and it’s dated points of view, the better we’ll all be. I’m sure thousands of years ago before we had a better understanding of the universe, of life and most things in it, religion offered some security to those not lucky enough to be born into wealth and gave hope to the less fortunate, but I think we’ve come a long way since then, we’re all alot smarter and most ppl understand now that religions are just another business chasing money and power… I am sad for YOU that you seem to feel some sort of superiority over Lea T; you’re so blinded by your beliefs you can’t accept that not everybody was ‘created’ in your black and white world.

  • michele

    You are ignorant

  • sdksh

You are equating gender and sex when they are not the same thing. Gender is mental and sex is physical.

  • Beatrix

Hey Acwalley, I looked it up:

“Sexual identity, especially in relation to society or culture.”

Yes, that sounds about right. I was born with male sex organs but have always identified as female. I present myself as female, and am mostly accepted as such (or tolerated or ignored) by society.

    So, what was your point?

  • Beatrix

    Not where I live.

Although Gender Identity Disorder has historically been considered as mental illness, there is controversy amongst professionals over the diagnosis. Remember that homosexuality was regarded as a mental illness until comparatively recently – it was only removed from the DSM in 1973.

Gender Identity Disorder is still listed in the DSM, but there has been much discussion about whether it should be reclassified or omitted from the next edition. I believe it is being reclassified as ‘Gender Incongruity’, which removes the ‘disorder’ part of the label, thus putting it more in the realm of a medical condition, rather than a mental illness. This would complement the growing scientific evidence that suggests that genetic and hormonal triggers and development of the brain in utero contribute to the mechanism/s that cause atypical gender identity.

By the way, if you felt like actually, you know, researching your ‘Fact’ and looking around the Internet at all, you would have seen this handy tidbit on Wikipedia:

‘In December 2002, the British Lord Chancellor’s office published a Government Policy Concerning Transsexual People document that categorically states “What transsexualism is not…It is not a mental illness.” In May 2009 the government of France has also declared that a transsexual gender identity is not a psychiatric condition in France.’

  • Beatrix

Probably not. But then I don’t see anyone talking about trans-species-ism.

Why don’t you take your worthless and irrelevant straw-man argument, look up ‘rational debate’ on Google, and then maybe you’ll be ready to come back and talk to the grown-ups, mm?

  • Beatrix

Nonsense. Most of you guys – you know, the ones who get really flustered when they read a transsexual and try to compensate for it with immature machismo – would never guess Lea was born male if you passed her in real life (and you didn’t already know).

It’s because you know, that you have to make a fuss. But if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t care.

  • Nycpolito

And what about thos born with both sexes?……Then what?

  • Nycpolito

I consider Lea extremely brave…..as a matter of fact transgendered people are my heroes. I would like to see how many people out there would have the courage to make the decision that you are not comfortable with your gender and then go out and change it. I honestly don’t believe that most of us would have that kind of courage.

  • i am a zebra

Wow. Will you be having any more “unique” thoughts for everyone? I find that the most unintelligent people simply attack without saying anything.

  • guest

do you define your masculinity or feminity by your genitalia??? Hopefully you’re not that superficial. The way you feel, your hormone balance and the way you choose to present and identify yourself is what categorizes you as female or male.

Plenty of penis bearers are effeminate and vagina bearers are masculine and choose to identify themselves in society by whatever makes them most comfortable.

And though ignorance is distressing it helps no-one to just tell someone to “grow up”.

He is a he. Even if he gets his penis inverted he’ll still be a he in the eyes of God and all sane people. It’s madness to call “transsexuals” by female pronouns as ther’re just psycologically disturbed men whom perverted “doctors” have decided need to have healthy organs altered to trick the rest of the world into believing the transsexual’s psychosis.
Besides, get a grip ppl! You think anyone would bother talking about his supposed beauty if he were a real woman??? Even if he was a woman “she” would be FUGLY: mouth too wide, chin thick and stout, eyelids hooded…need I go on?

  • Robert

God made man, woman and the intersexed. He did not create transsexuals – they create themselves by perverting their natural bodies with artificial hormones and surgery. Transsexuals alter God’s creation when He either assigned them as male or female. God clearly shuns cross-dressing (Leviticus) and homosexuality in the Bible. Those who indulge may do so but will undoubtably face the consequences. Those who support them will be counted among their numbers. AMEN!

Why is Lea T. being referred to as a woman when ‘she’ seems to have a normal sized PENIS? Hermaphrodites usually have some combination of sex organs, NOT breasts (probably resulting from taking hormones or SOME MEN grow breasts from smoking pot) and a penis and testicles.

Fine, if he got the snip, call him a woman. Lea T is NOT a woman. This is offensive. He’s not transgendered he is just a tranny in the sense that he’s a man that dresses as a woman.

  • tomadachi2all

You and your ten followers are basing your opinion on incomplete info. Psychological Gender (that you feel you are–which is assigned prenatal they think by hormones interacting on parts of the brain) is not necessarily related to what your body is always, as other have said. It OFTEN or USUALLY is, but not always. ANd you what you say about doctors proclaiming boy or girl and girl xternally means has a womb is incorrect..ramming home that point further. External genital ambiguity happens to be one of the most common birth “defects”…in such cases doctors do not name a gender until further testing is done. And, you are mistaken in sighting the usual as “always”.  External genitalia in such cases do not necessarily correlated with internal genetalia or genetic sex. ALot of people (thousands) discover at puberty in fact that there normal looking female genetalia (causing them to have been raised as a girl) are misleading as their vagina is a dead end, they have testes or ovotestes (a primitive undifferentiated organ usually only found in embryos before sex differentiates) not ovaries, and no “womb”. People externally labelled as a “boy” or “ambiguous might later find out they have one ovary and one teste! When I learned how much ambiguity there is in the physical, biological process of making males and females…yes most people are one or the other but millions in the world are a varying mix…I figured that the psychological gender you feel you are in your head…ie gender assignment to the fetus in the brain…could get mxed up sometimes too. Think about it! Take your own advice to open your mind to the facts and what they might therefore imply about the biological gender assingment process (all processes have errors and variants…I believe having one gender go with opposite gender body type is a variant like that)

  • Lindaevans1933

see my post above. Their are facts. Scientists know that gender (if you FEEL you are a man or woman) is in your brain and USUALLY goes along with your body sex type but not always. It just is a fact. You haven’t experienced a disconnect yourself between the two (what your body’s gender type is and what you feel you are) and most people have not (I haven’t) so up until recently in society the two were confounded as the same thing (are for most of us) and the people who didn’t match were told they were crazy. Scientist think that their are male and femail brains and that the gender of the brain is influenced by fetal hormones and other factors.

  • tomadachi2all

alot of these people like the one you are replying to don’t even know what Intersex is, you see. They think everyone is like them, your body is always one or the other and ambiguitiy doesn’t exist. Irregularities occur in all fetal development including of the external and internals sex organs. Why would it not be plausible that it could mismatch brain based Gender with what the body type is? It makes sense. Obvious to me even before scientists found it was likely true. The ignorant posting hear base their feelings on incomplete information.

  • tomadachi2all

darn I said I liked your comment by accident. I don’t.
THere are alot of different kind of genetic mistakes/variations out there. All created by God. The God I would choose to believe in would love ALL his creations equally if they were good people, regardless of being born with a “mistake”. . One “mistake” is when psychological gender does not match the body type. PSychologcial gender is brain based and science is pretty sure how it develops. Actually, a sex changes sort of correct the error and brings things back into alignment doesn’t it? Another mismatch/mistake is when external genitaliea don’t match internal genetalia or even genetic sex. that happens too. God loves those people too they didn’t do anything wrong.

  • Bolo

There are plenty of cultures in this that are accepting of transgendered people. Many of the Pacific Island nations (Polynesia), Thailand, & India to name a few. Even here in the U.S.,  a number of the First Nation/Native American groups were fine with “Two-Spirits”, their term for transgendered people.

Its just sad to see so many folks react to these people in such a negative way.

And as far as having the surgery being so risky…I happen to know TWO people personally who have had the surgery and they did well and are living their lives happily as females. Make up your mind, be one or the other. And as far as her being a fashion model…she is NOT very attractive, but there are many models who aren’t…they are more “shocking” or “striking” looking, but not beautiful…she looks like a little gay Hispanic guy. (who took some hormones)

Its a MAN! Just because he wants to be a woman doesn’t make him a woman! I’d like to be a millionaire but just because I might wake up one day & call myself one doesn’t make it true!

  • TRO

This is a man that wants to be a woman and even after the surgery he will still be a man that wants to be a woman.

Grow up haters. Many of the women commenting here are just jealous they don’t look as good as Lea, and the guys complaining are aroused by Lea and cant deal with their feelings.

I support equal rights for GLBT people. They are humans too.

You ‘don’t know what to think’ but you proceed to give paragraph after paragraph of what you think. If you think there is ‘more pressing issues for humanity to address right now’, get to it.

  • KeiYuuki

Transsexual does. Transsexuals are not Cross Dressers, Neither are transGenders, but you obviously think its just a bunch of cross dressers.  You have no clue as to what is going on in your simple mind. If you only knew a fraction of what it takes even just to start a transition, you would not be free willing your over simplified, non researched ideas.   Instead of listening to some bible thumping preacher, try researching it yourself, ask why does it takes years and years of therapy and Medical visits just to begin a transition…

  • Kei Yuuki

Agreed, people tend to not realize what it takes to be a Trans. Its not just wearing women’s clothes and saying your in transition…..which a lot of the nay sayers are actually thinking.. They just have no clue.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kei-Yuuki/100001439998233 Kei Yuuki

Not exactly…. There are cases of Male to Female that receive Uterus’s from women that have had Hysterectomies, and have actually able to bear children, and was extremely successful.  Former Females can not produce children by any surgery, but former males can and carry them for 9 months. And since you are so Bi linear on the Sex labeling, What do you label a person with BOTH a uterus and Testies and penis? Where are all your smarts on this “Label”. After SRS Surgery, are you aware that Rape is very imminent, so with a vagina, you still wish all women to have the chance of being raped by throwing a oversimplified label, of born this way, has to shower with men, bathroom and everything.. thats a Rape case waiting to happen… you really need to think a lot deeper on the subject and swallow some of that pride you have.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kei-Yuuki/100001439998233 Kei Yuuki

Your obviously have no idea whatsoever on what its like being a Trans Gender.  Nor do you have any insight whatsoever on how much it takes just to get hormones.  It requires years of Therapy and years of Medical visits. Unlike your simple mind thinks, that throwing on female clothes is all Trans Genders do, its completely false. You seriously have not a single clue.

Whaaaat…..???  I’m 55 years old; had periods; never had cramps; carried and gave birth to 2 beautiful children; I had toothaches worse than my labor pains; mood changes and menopause…??  What the heck are those?  Now does this make me a man?

  • Star Kiss

I think that as humans we should not be defined on are body parts. There are women born out there with a
Penis and Uterus but mentally are women if she lived by society’s standard she would have to live like a man because of a birth defect. In hindsight a penis is just skin blood and nerves just like a vagina. As a society we need to be way more open and Lea T gives us this opportunity! She is beautiful and Many of the women commenting here are just jealous and men are scared to compete with her “size”.

  • Kimberly

Let Lea live her life. Live your own. Honor your own values – and recognize that others have an equal right to honor their own values, apart from yours.Your discomfort with the confusing set of labels we call sex/gender/sexuality belies your insecurity with yourself, and seeing this image brings that primal insecurity to the surface. Perhaps even to the level of a ‘disorder.’

It might even be helpful to learn that the idea of binary gender was cast aside by science beginning in the ‘teens of the 20th century. However there are many ideas of the 20th century that were/are too controversial for many to accept, so they simply hold on to older ideas and dig their feet in harder.  New ideas always take time to gain societal acceptance, the time needed being the inverse of your personal involvement. If the idea doesn’t involve you or your belief structure at all, you will probably accept the idea immediately. If the idea does involve you personally on some level, then your acceptance will be slower, and follow the pattern of the grief process: denial, anger, acceptance. I believe we are seeing this demonstrated in a very public way, right here.

The advertising worked quite well. I don’t agree that the ad’s intent was to “shove transsexuals down  our throats,” but rather to create controversy. By participating in this controversy, you (and I) are being played by the advertisers. Now we all know Lea’s name – I had no idea who she was prior to this. The ‘agenda’ that ‘the media’ has is quite simple – make money. If you think they have a social agenda, please take a course in marketing. Social engineering never comes up, but maximizing exposure does.

Pero quienes son para aprobar algo o no??

  • realwoman2011

I refuse to define a man as a woman just because HE claims to identify as one. No MAN can birth a child or has to worry about bleeding from their vagina every month. They don’t suffer like WOMEN from breast cancer or cervical cancer. They don’t worry about hormonal changes and heat flashes when it is time for menopause. So no, how dare you sound so ignorant as to try and let a MAN claim to be a WOMAN just because HE thinks he feels like one? A MAN will never truly be a WOMAN so let’s think before we jump on the bandwagon and try to label people as shallow or naive. I have never been kicked in the balls or will never now how it feels to shoot out sperm nor do I pretend to know.

  • Kendrascott05

Seriously people I have a vagina and am a 34D 5″2 female. NO matter how strong, smart, fast, ugly, muscular, etc, etc, I am it does NOT negate the fact that I am female by the very definition of the word. Like it or not I am not now or will ever be a MALE. This is non debatable. When I jump up and down my boobs hurt. Every 28 days or so I bleed for at least four days and don’t have to go to the hospital. Weather or not I personally can get pregnant I have all of the necessary “equipment” needed to carry a child. SO for once and for all stop trying to force WOMEN to accept MEN as WOMEN. And I don’t expect MEN to accept WOMEN as MEN. Express yourself as you want, but just because a dog identifies better as a cat does not make it a feline. It just isn’t possible.

    Who’s the ignorant one now?

  • Kendrascott05

Absolutely. If you paint yourself in black and white stripes and claim that you have always identified as Zebra as opposed to a human then screw whatever the qualifications are to be defined as a Zebra, then you are entitled to proclaim yourself as a Zebra and I’m sure there will be a flock of people to defend your right to BE a ZEBRA.

  • Kendrascott05

what in the heck do you mean by between the ears? please elaborate before I state an official retort.

  • Kendrascott05

I WANT to be 5″5 so I wear heels. That does NOT make me any taller. You can’t always get what you want. God doesn’t make mistakes either. So to change what he has created is just appalling, however do what you do, just don’t take away from the real in the process. I AM a WOMAN and just because you think that you identify as woman does not give you the right to say that you are just like me with the small exception of biology. It doesn’t work like that. A black man can’t make himself white just because he bleaches his skin. Genetics don’t work on desire.

  • Kendrascott05

YES a penis makes a man. Everyone has breast/pectorals is just a variance of size and shape. So, no breast are not a defining feature of women.

  • Kendrascott05

Okay let’s just call it like it is and set all the bull to the side. What straight man/lesbian woman wants to have sex with a WOMAN with a 9″ snake? A straight man expects his woman to have vag as does a lesbian. So where is the debate. When it’s all boiled down to it’s most simplistic level, a straight man will never be attracted to a woman with a penis. And a transgender “woman” probably isn’t interested in a woman with a vagina either. Or else that would make them straight which defies the entire argument of them identifying themselves as the opposite sex/gender.

  • Kendrascott05

Why in the heck would a woman be jealous of a man with a penis, other than penis envy. Stupid much?

  • realwoman2011

but answer me this, as a gay male do you feel that you are entitled tomorrow to wake up and identify yourself as a female?

  • realwoman2011

Ugh, so now it’s discriminatory to call a dog a dog, or perhaps an infant an infant? How about identifying a crayon as green, for it is so labeled? Shall we redefine everything else as we have accepted it to be. Will one now be two and two shall be three? If I hurt your feelings for calling you as you are then so be it. Feelings shall be hurt. But don’t get mad at society for establishing a communication system that requires us to define things so that we may be able to express ourselves to one another. Calling men women will not make the world uni-gendered.There will forever and inevitably be differences that will force us to define ourselves apart from other beings. Especially for the sake of science. If you diagnose a fish human as fish because they feel they “belong” in the water, one would surely die for lack of proper medical attention. DUMB DUMB !!!!

  • realwoman2011

Calling yourself a woman when you aren’t isn’t being different. It’s actually trying to conform to society. Being who you are for what it’s worth is what is unique. Who has the right to bash a female for not accepting a man as being identified the same as her. That is asking a lot and is simply unreasonable and unfair. Why should I say that a man with penis, balls and all is a woman? Because he claims to identify with my same genetic disposition? Oh, so men can just go around calling themselves women and we have to accept it and be okay with it? How in the heck is the right, just or fair? My goodness, women don’t even get equal pay as men, had to earn or right to vote and I’m also a minority and now I’m just suppose to say “ya, you’re right, that amazonian thing, with the adam’s apple, ripped and chiseled physic, deep voice,  size 14 shoe, and a 9″ penis is just a fragile and petite female that reminds me of myself” Stfu!

  • realwoman2011

Finally someone getting to the meat and potatoes of this convo. To judge this man as a person modeling female clothes it is my opinion that he has stringy, dirty looking hair and simple put looks like a man. As a woman, especially seeing him holding his ball sack in the picture, I would not be interested in buying whatever he had to sale. Perhaps if he kept his penis to himself he would sale more, but for you to flash balls in my face and then start crying about this being some beautiful woman to me is like a slap in the face. But seriously, idk. And he is certainly not the first male model to model female clothes dressed as a woman but that doesn’t mean that i should feel like crap as female for saying that it is a man in women’s clothing. Come on, where are all my Drag Queens at that keep it 100?

  • realwoman2011

They are a many and plenty of men that like me for my natural beauty sweat pants, pony tail and no make-up and I am never confused as a man. However men are inherently attracted to a real as woman, weather or not you so callously want to go around arbitrarily accusing people of being pedophiles for being attracted to what “you” say are real women with boyish figures. You are proving a point how? By retaliating against men for being attracted to women. Good job.

  • C James Tournbleau

As a woman I find your comment absolutely insulting. I am not forced by anyone to accept people as they are, I just do because people extend me the courtesy too. I was born female and I’m happy as female, but to call others male simply because what’s inbetween their legs doesn’t match with how they feel they were born is rude and shortsighted. Physically men CAN become women, that’s what the surgeries are for, but mentally they were never men to begin with. If you find it insulting to women that there are transgender women around, well, I find it insulting as a woman that I share my physical appearance with someone like you.

So to your question, who is the ignorant one? Well, I’d say it was you.

Stick your ignorance where the sun don’t shine.

HOW DARE YOU PLAY THIS JUDGEMENTAL BS ON US!!!! We haven’t done anything to you and you co me up with this ignorant crap. We don’t claim we are women. We are women, so why don’t you try walking in our shoes.

  • Nicole W 916

Our gender is brain based. It is proven. We developed a female brain while in our mothers womb. It isn’t that we chose this, but because we were born this way.

  • Nicole W 916

God purposely made us this way and yes we are women. You running your crap is appalling. I am ashamed to be in the human catagory as you.

  • Nicole W 916

What does heels have to do with transgirls any way? What does being black or white have to do with it? I think I kmow what your problem is? You are insecure about what you are! You are afraid that you could be trans.

  • Nicole W 916

You are Kendra!! Very very ignorant!

  • Nicole W 916

First off… I was born transgendered. My brain developed female and my body develope male. This doesn’t make me any less a female. To sit there and judge us for that is ignorant. Who are you to judge us? You are in the same boat as I and every other transgendered person on this planet. However I do agree with one statement. God doesn’tmake mistakes, but on the other hand we did not have a choice in this matter. God made us this way for a reason. We are female like it or not!!!

  • Nicole W 916

I mean everyone on this rock is in the same boat transgendered or not!!!

  • Nicole W 916

The so perfect Pastor / Priest Kendra presiding. She gives herself the GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO JUDGE US ALL!! Or in other words treat us transgendered people like crap just because she so ignorantly doesn’t like it.

  • Nicole W 916

So let me guess?? A a genetic woman that was born with a penis isn’t really a woman because she doesn’t have the right equipment down there! There is also a man that was born with a vagina on the outside so that means he is not a man because he can’t have sex with a woman! What in the hell is wrong with you Kendra. I think you are afraid you might be transgendered. I think it would help with your ignorance if you would come out of the closet.

The fact that people are discussing this topic even in the most uneducated way, instills hope in my heart. I understand how the people feel that cannot except a woman in transition. They are in thier own minds right in this matter and may never be swayed. However they are giving input. I do not have the right to judge her or any other person. Enjoy life to it’s fullest. Be true to yourself.

    you are stupid

  • Jayden

Attacking those who belittle you for your transgenderism will get you nowhere.

Do not misinterpret my comment. I empathize with you and many others who live with the anguish of being TG. Though no transgendered person’s experience is the same as that of another, being TG–being that uncomfortable with yourself to that extent, to that degree–can very often be agonizing.

Regardless, fallacious arguments (in your case: getting much too worked up over Kendra’s attacks and attacking her yourself [ad hominem]) do little to help the matter.

    Just… saying. I guess.

  • Jayden

Please don’t speak for others. Unless you have performed a valid survey inquiring every straight man/lesbian (What about bisexual men or women? What about pansexual men or women?) about the matter.

Of course, knowing your stance on the matter, this could become quite complicated because, surely, you may want to work with cisgendered men or women who would answer in your favor, or the survey could be–to put it simply–rigged.

I say this because you are very much biased.

I will say that I know straight men and lesbians who declared they would never have sex with a transgendered or transsexual woman.

Yet I also know those who identify as straight men (here comes the gender issue) or lesbian (gender identity also comes into play here) who would have no issue with having sex with a TG or transsexual woman.

    Frankly, they find it arousing.

    Just so you know.

Anyway, for someone who wants to argue using “facts”, back up your arguments with evidence and data. Facts cannot always stand alone.

postscript: What you know as “fact” can change, too. You realize this, yes? Words and definitions change with the times. Have to keep up.

  • Jayden

In addition, I am most upset that you seem to define attraction as purely physical. To suggest that a straight man or lesbian would be attracted to a woman only for what’s between her legs (as you seem to say) is quite superficial. Granted, this may be true for some… but most definitely not all.

Furthermore, did you know sexuality is fluid? Once a straight man does not mean always a straight man.

  • Liz
  • Hakeemjackson89

    She is beautiful period!

  • Sir/Madam

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Please refer to the terms presented: “Gender”, and “Sex”. One’s sex is absolute, as you have said. Technically, due to the intact penis, Lea is classified as a man. However, her gender is not absolute. She, like many other individuals, are female. They can produce extra estrogen, less testosterone, and identify as the other sex. That in itself is not an easy task, and people who react in the ways you do are an immense portion of the “hate” population.
Now, I sincerely hope that you never reproduce and have the opportunity to help your transgendered child discover who they truly are–it’s a sure-fire way to have them end up dead.

  • IfYouHadBalls,IWouldKIckThem.

Men actually go through hormonal changes around the same time as women, too. It’s called Andropause.
My dear Lord, I sincerely hope your children aren’t as moronic as you.
    As for your “womanly” examples?
    - Men do indeed go through hormonal fluctuations every month, typically indicative of a “male period”. They may not have a uterus that needs revamping, but their hormones do exactly what a woman’s do. They also go through physical changes during this “period”–they can gain water weight, lose muscle mass, experience less erections. All due to the same process that makes a woman’s uterus clean up every month to prepare for birth.
    - Men can indeed get breast cancer, and they are a large portion of the sufferers from it. Instead of cervical cancer, they get cancer of the testes, and many men born with inactive ovaries can experience cysts of the ovaries, as well as ovarian cancers.

“Thinking” you are a different gender is not the same as “feeling”. When you “feel” you are the opposite gender, it is because your body is produces the right chemicals and hormones for the “wrong” gender. Yes, you may indeed have a penis, but your body produces the same amount of estrogen and progesterone as a healthy, ovulating woman. You undergo to the same degree the changes a “woman” undergoes, and you experience everything as a woman. Just with a minor difference–you have a penis instead of a vagina. Many transgendered men find they don’t have a properly functioning penis, either, due to the hormones present in their system.

It’s the same for the other side of the story. Please think about that before you try to educate your offspring on the ways of life.

  • Blakpearl45

I AM A Woman,  A real woman,  I do not have to identify myself as a woman I was born a WOMAN.  He was not as we all can clearly see here.  Effeminacy: describes traits in a human male that are
more often associated with stereotypically feminine nature, behavior,
mannerisms, style or gender roles,  so using this word is not disgusting in any way,  it is what it is the Truth.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

Kendra, really I think you should get to know some transgender people. Personally, I mean and interact a bit with them. That would probably change the way you think. Actually you might even have met some of us already and never noticed. Those who transition early (in their teens or so) usually have a physical appearance which is indistinguishable from “genetic females” and you would certainly not notice anything wrong or special about them.
We’re people just like cisgendered (non-trans) persons. We define ourselves mentally as either men or women just like everyone else (well, a few do consider themselves “genderqueer” or “not male nor female” but that’s not the case here). And that just happens to us, in the same way that you identify as female regardless of whether you have a uterus, ovaries, you bleed every 28 days or whatever other physical fact. If in your teens you had found out that you were actually born without a uterus (or even that you have androgen insensitivity syndrome and are an XY female), in all likelyhood that wouldn’t have changed your identity. You’d still be a female. The same happens to us. Really it’s not that hard to understand if you think of it that way.

Most people who reject us or think we are “men claiming to be women” or “women claiming to be men” usually do so out of ignorance. Once they get to know us, they understand that it’s more about “men and women born with the wrong bodies” than anything else.

I wish you all the best and hope that you’ll have the opportunity to get to know us better in the future. :)

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

She probably does have the “mood changes” from her hormone therapy. But in any case the things you describe are not what make you a woman. If you just think about it, you already considered yourself a girl before having your first period, or knowing that you have a uterus (some girls find out in their teens that they have some medical conditions that made them be born without one). You didn’t become a woman then, you already were in your head.

And imagine if you woke up on day and found a penis between your legs. Certainly you’d still be a woman. It’s not different for transgender people: we have our gender in or brains/minds, just like you and everyone else.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

Sorry dear, but that’s wrong. At least it hasn’t been documented until now. As far as we know it might be possible in the future to bear children after receiving an uterus from another person, but despite some attempts in the past, it hasn’t happened so far.

What has happened is that some XY people born with a uterus (some extremely rare conditions cause that) and external female genitalia have given birth to children (using donor oocytes, because they have testes instead of ovaries).

Anyways thanks or being understanding of our condition. And let’s hope one day not too far in the future, bearing children in a donor uterus becomes a real possibility. It would mean a lot to us.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

When you actually feel like a zebra and undergo a successful real-life test living as one (as they make us transfolk go through) and that proves to be beneficial to your psychical health we can talk about it seriously. But so far we haven’t documented any real case of such “trans-speciesness”.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

You’re just mocking us without understanding our condition. You think it’s “fun” to compare transgenderism to “people who claim to be zebras”, but the fact is that there’s no medical condition for that. We really don’t know of anyone who consider themselves a zebra, so no need to worry.

We do however know that every human being (or the overwhelming majority of us) have a clear gender identity in their minds. Sometimes it matches our bodies and sometimes it doesn’t. The mismatch between the gender of you mind and the sex of your body is a medical condition in all seriousness and shouldn’t be mocked or ridiculed just because you don’t understand it.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

    “When
you “feel” you are the opposite gender, it is because your body is
produces the right chemicals and hormones for the “wrong” gender. [...] your body produces the same amount of
estrogen and progesterone as a healthy, ovulating woman. [...]”

We’re trans-sisters I guess, and I mostly agree with all you say. But the sentence I’m quoting is actually wrong. Our bodies don’t produce the same hormones as those of most natal women. Therefore we get HRT to have the right hormones for us.
If we did produce estrogen and progesterone as other women, then our bodies would be just like theirs (without penises and with all the secondary sex characteristics they naturally develop). It’s no big deal, if we get HRT early enough our bodies can end up with all the right female features, but still it’s factually wrong that we produce estrogen and progesterone in the same way as women with ovaries.

I hope you won’t be offended by this correction and wish you all the best! :)

PS: I think that you probably got confused after reading about the “organization-activation” or “neuro-hormonal” theories on the causes of transsexuality. But when they speak of hormones there, they talk about what happened to us before we were born, not in our post-natal lives.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

If you were a bit less close-minded you’d understand that she IS a woman, a REAL woman. She does not have to identify herself as a woman she was born a WOMAN with male genitalia.

Your gender (man-woman) is not between your legs, but in your head. Just like hers.

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

There are several definitions for “transgendered”. The generally (or traditionally) most accepted one is that it’s an umbrella term for many conditions where the gender identity is involved. So it includes transsexuals as well as other people who have issues with their gender bur aren’t transsexual (transvestites, cross-dressers, genderqueers, etc). So no, trangender does not mean female in this definition but it could be that a transgender person is female (in the case of a transsexual).

There are other definitions for “transgender” but they tend to be very controversial, especially within the community as they are often times used to exclude a certain population (for instance those transsexuals who decide not to get SRS).

  • http://brendafernandez.com Brenda Fernández

I think she underwent SRS in March 2011. But of course she already was a women before, with or without her penis.
Anyway, thanks for being understanding towards us! :)

As a transsexual myself I find it a bit gross that she displays her genitals in that way. Especially because it might send the wrong message to the cisgendered (non-trans) people who see it. But of course she’s free to do so and it doesn’t make her any less a woman.

Closed minded,  I’m NOT.  Real,  I AM.  He is not,  nor will he ever be a woman.  HE was NOT born a woman.  DING DONG!  Hello?  I never mentioned anything about what was between his legs,  but what was stated:  that he identified himself as a woman,  the fact that you would say something such as being born a woman with male genitalia says it all!!!  I AM A Woman,  I was born a Woman there is nothing Male about me.

Wow…look at how confused EVERYONE is….fact, this and opinion that…name calling (jeez). Yet, when I look at the picture i see a human being first…*then i get confused woman on top/man on the bottom — okay, not my business*…but still human through and through. The person wants to be referred to as a woman, period.  So we live and let “her” live to work out her issues and with that everyone should be happy…sheesh *to each his or her reach*  As far as the runway — she has a perfect model body, interesting face, beautiful full lips (I’m african american so i dig lips, LOL) and hair that could use some cut and styling. If she has not been called out, I would have just assumed that there was nothing out of the ordinary. She is assigned her own value just like the rest of us…again, to each his or her reach.

  • AnonymousAlly

Clearly you are ignorant of what transgendered means. This is a picture of a woman who happens to still have a penis. So what?! Transgendered men all have vaginas because there is no surgery to go the other way; they are still men. This woman was born with a penis, it does not change who she is. Shame on you for suggesting otherwise. Go educate yourself, you need it!

  • Asdf

this is terribly disguisting. sorry, that is just how I feel. This is not a woman. Period.

What is IT! What a GREAT Role Model for Italian & French Youth! A Circus Side Show Creature in a Fashion Magazine! Half Man Half Woman Come one Come All to the Three Ring Circus! There should be a Scratch-N-Sniff card on the same Page as this poor creature’s Photo Layout that smells like Elephant Shit to really add to the Circus atmosphere! I wonder how many borderline Schizophrenics are going to be getting their Dicks removed or even worse Getting Fake Boobs to become Models???
We have to remember that this comes out of France! This is probably the only argument for abortion!

If this decision to have your Sex Changed is the right one because of How you have felt on the inside is True, Then why do 50% (according to all suicide polls)of all Transgendered, transsexuals commit Suicide! They threaten suicide if they cannot live their lives as the person they know they are THEN kill themselves when they do become who they were meant to be! I have a friend who was GAY and after Therapy forced upon him by his parents, discovered thru the Therapist, that he was really a woman TRAPPED inside a mans body. His parents were elated that their son was not Queer and funded their son’s Sex-Change operation and stood by his side EVERY step of the way! After his SURGERY they took him shopping for a whole new wardrobe, introduced him to everybody as their daughter and loved him as a Female. About a year later they went to his/her apartment and found him hanging by a beam in his ceiling! He explained in his Suicide Note that he could not stand to see himself in the mirror anymore and living a lie! He went on to say that He was Totally Crushed by his Parents being ashamed of him because he was Gay and then Adored him after he had his penis removed! He wanted his old life back and that was Impossible! I loved him either way and couldn’t reach him! JUST BECAUSE A SHRINK TELLS YOU OR CONVINCES YOU THAT YOU ARE SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT — DOESN’T MAKE IT TRUE!

How about we all just identify people by the gender they were when they were born. Problem solved.

  • asd

What a sad and narrow mind you so clearly possess.  You poor thing.

  • KendraScottmasculinefemale

Your whole entry just reinforces the fact that YOU are ignorant. Also, it’s not “weather” it’s “whether”, but I guess your grammatical errors are just another contribution for your lack of intelligence.

Whatever Lea T is, you should respect her has an individual and not dehumanize her just because you have a jaded/narrow view of what gender (a very socialized concept) is suppose to be.

  • Gender is inadequate

Well, the issue with that is the fact that people are not born with a gender. They are born with a sex, and there is even an issue with that considering the fact that doctors, oftentimes, do not know what to do with certain children based on physicals appearance or ovotestes being present. You simply saying “problem solved” by identifying a baby by its “gender” (which, again sweetheart, is NOT the correct term) is not solving anything, it is just creating an even bigger issue for people who have to deal with transgender problems (which are physiological and have proven to be so). The way to solved this problem, is by diminishing ignorance. We should start with people like you and the rest of the uneducated men and women on this discussion board.

Kendrascott05, I think it’s pretty safe to say that none of the people here, especially the trans people will ever say they are “just like” you, even if they fit your short-sighted definition of woman.  Your insistence in your position despite the scientific facts provided by several people, shows that you are the type of person very few people would or should try to be like.  Closed-mindedness, race, and “God” have no place in a discussion such as this and somehow you’ve managed to bring all three.

Many, many natural women (for lack of a better term) don’t have bouncy breasts you claim to have.  Many don’t have functional ovaries or uterus.  They are still women.  My twin sister, as example, has about 2 periods a year and can not have children but she’s very much a woman.  By your definition having a vagina and breasts make you a woman.  I still haven’t seen any response from you about those born with both male and female external genitalia, though.

Race isn’t something defined in our minds, gender is.  As such, the straw-man argument comparing race and gender is just meaningless.

Genetics may not work on desire but this isn’t a discussion about genetics, it’s a discussion about gender. I suggest you take the time to educate yourself for everyone’s sake, but mostly for your own sake.

Excuse you, but what makes me (or any other woman) a woman is NOT my ability to carry a child. As if that is all women are here for. Screw off.

  • Jade

Actually, this WOMAN is very feminine looking. I’d be willing to bet anything that you wouldn’t know she was trans if you saw her walking down the street.

  • JocelynP

Moving to a liberal city and surrounding myself in the LGBTQ community has apparently blinded me to the level of ignorance that still exists in America. I could debate for days about how hurtful and idiotic a lot of these comments are, but I know that it’s like talking to a brick wall the majority of the time.

Instead, I’ll just say that I stand in support of Lea T and the few other Trans men and women that have posted on here. Here is one less hateful person on your side.

  • FreeWill

Until recently, I was of the opinion that if you did not have two X chromosomes, you were not a female.
Then, at the beginning of the school year, a friend I had not encountered yet came up and said hi. I did not recognize him, because until that moment, I had always identified this friend as a girl!

There was no way that I could ever find it in my heart to cast this person away. And it truly opened my mind up to this whole situation. Frankly, if one is born with two X chromosomes, they are biologically female. If they are born XY, they are biologically male. I don’t want to get into the whole XXY argument because I am not educated enough in this area.

But is this biological definition the most important thing in the world? And why must we decide how others should and should not behave and identify? This freedom to be who you want to be is what makes life so wonderful! And absolutely no one should tell you otherwise.

So despite your own opinions, whether you’re starkly against Lea T or with her, the right thing to do is be respectful. It is not our place to scoff. This, I believe, is the mature way of handling this.

Let me get this straight… the ability to carry a baby to term makes one a woman.  So the fact that even though I was born with a uterus but am unable to conceive… what does that make me?  You may call me response stupid, and I’m sure you will.  But it’s no more stupid than your idiotic statement.

  • SRT2006

    “God doesn’t make mistakes…”

Hahaha…  Seriously?  He made you.  Perfect counterpoint to your own argument.  Thanks for the laugh.

God has nothing to do with any of this.  All sorts of contributing factors in utero make people who they are, either physically or mentally.  And sometimes those two don’t mesh.  It’s awful that trans people go through such anguish as to have been born in the wrong body.  I’ve never had that misfortune but I know people who have.  I was born a female and identify as such.  But if anyone ever says I’m just like you in any way I’ll kick them in the teeth, because I would hate to have any sort of connection with someone as full of intolerance and outright hatred as you.

  • SRT2006

You say god created man in his image, and as Kendra stated earlier, god doesn’t make mistakes, am I right?  So tell me exactly what you find wrong with this…?  This is apparently just how god intended, and yet you dare question him?

Personally, I think SHE looks gorgeous.  I never would have guessed she was born male.  I applaud her for being so open about it despite the fact that there are so many people out there who condemn her and others like her just for being who they are.

I think the world needs to have this in our faces.  People are afraid of what they don’t know or understand.  Giving the closed-minded more exposure to what’s different can only help in making the world a more tolerant place.

  • not ‘that’ Lea

While it is sad that the person you loved killed themselves, and it’s true that many trans-folk do commit suicide, it is speculation to suggest that most of those suicides occur after they transition (until you provide proof?).  It’s unlikely that you’ll do that however, seeing as your post is 4 months old, so I won’t belabor that point any further.  I’m trans (genetic male w/ some feminine features/tendencies/etc.) and I haven’t ‘come out’ to very many people (i.e still live as a man for now).  I had some initial psycological counseling several years ago, was on Paxil for a brief period of time, and then started herbal hormones a few years ago.  I have almost full B cups now and my body hair’s beginning to finally thin a bit, but I’m dealing with my transition in my own way while maintaining some semblance of a ‘male’ outer image at work.  I’m the only guy at work with hair as long as I’ve got it, and I know I’m already talked about by the women in the office, but I’m not going to treat that as anything other than re-affirmation of my own ‘path’.  I *may* do something of my own “real life test” at work and generally in public as part of my transition one day, but I’m taking it all very slowly so my wife & I can process all parts of it at our pace.  Probably the most important thing is that the trans person needs at least one true confidant for their support network.  That confidant doesn’t have to be perfectly ‘inline’ with all your decisions, but they do have to love you for you at the end of the day, despite the reservations they have about the actions you take during transition.  I’ve learned that taking an “all or nothing” approach is not only very difficult to do, but also leaves no room for “life”, which will inevitably screw up an “all or nothing” approach to transition from time to time.  We’re not all just spoiled brats who kill ourselves when we don’t get everything we want out of life, even when we determine that what we ended up getting for our efforts ended up not being what we really wanted.  Rather, many of us thoughtfully determine what pace is right for us and strive to continue to be productive members of society, given that we’re societally-perceived differently from cis-gendered folks.

So does this mean if I’m a Caucasian that feels I was meant to be an African-American, I can be that? Or I feel like an Asian so I am? I sympathize with you guys, really, it must be a difficult position to be in, but there has to be some sort of limit.

If the limit is that once enough people feel that way, then it’s acceptable (which is what was said earlier) then fine; but admit that those are the guidelines.

  • http://teachingthefuture.net/?page_id=1005 Shelisa

Really? Race isn’t something defined in our minds? Then what would you say to a person who is bi-racial? Or multi-racial? Or of one race but looks like another?

Acc to the research, race is even more ambigious than gender/sex; even people who would consider themselves 100% Caucasian have a
small percentage of some other race in them. But if one of those people were ebony-colored, the large majority of people would laugh in their faces if they were told “he’s a white man in a black man’s body.”

I’m not all making fun of transgender/transsexuals – I  have done the research – but I think people have a problem with the “I think therefore it is” statements (despite what the research says) because the physical evidence is overwhelming.

    Just sayin’.

i think you are referring to the 40% rule. these suicides are more the cause of psychological and social adversities faced when having to go through something confounding while other people pick apart those experiences through the eyes of the ignorant.
