It’s A Trend! Vuitton Taps Aging Soccer Stars For New Ads

Like leather shorts, we totally thought old models would be gone before we could make another agist quip. But then those folks over at LVMH have never met a trend they didn’t like — and it seems they haven’t lost their taste for the seasoning. Consider their latest round of salt and pepper-heavy adverts. Lensed by Annie Leibovitz, the new campaign — just in time for the 2010 World Cup — captures soccer greats Zinedine Zidane, Diego Maradona, and Pele playing a round of foosball at a dusty cafe in Madrid.

Holy monogram! Old, soccer (err, foosball) playing models — talk about killing two trends with one stone fox. Of course the move to cast the soft-bodied trio is not quite as ballsy as Dolce and Gabbana’s recent brief-tastic team of man-meat and, let’s be honest, they evince a bit more wear-and-tear than Kristen McMenamy. Nonetheless, there’s something about three middle-aged guys reliving the good old days — you know those triumphant scores — that makes us say, aww shucks. Now back to those boys in their skivvies.

I agree about Pele and Maradona being soft bodied and aging but Zidane??? have you seen him? exactly what part of him is soft? IMHO he looks fantastic and gorgeous and like a real man not some fetus. He might be retired but he’s only in his 30′s.
