Police Search For 6-Year-Old’s Remains Under New York Boutique
Is New York’s Lucky Brand store a crime scene?
Possibly, according to the New York Times, who report that “dozens of police and F.B.I. investigators entered a basement on Prince Street in SoHo on Thursday morning in a renewed search for evidence in the case of Etan Patz, the 6-year-old boy whose disappearance 33 years ago sparked a worldwide hunt”. The basement in question is below Lucky’s Soho outpost at 127B Prince St.
In May 1979, Patz went missing while walking to his school bus stop from his family’s apartment at 113 Prince. The case was closed in 2001 when a judge declared the boy legally dead, but it was reopened in 2010.
Head police spokesman Paul J. Brown told the Times that law enforcement agencies obtained a search warrant for the space after a cadaver-sniffing dog “indicated the possibility of remains” in the 13-by-62-foot basement. Agents and officers will be spending the next few days removing drywall and digging up the cement floor to search for Patz.
