Unretouched Photos Of Madonna’s D&G Ad Campaign

Someone must really have a thing for Madonna; this is the fourth time unretouched images of her have leaked — this year! This time, the images are from the Queen of Pop’s recent ad campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, and while the differences pre- and post-production are certainly startling, we can’t help but wish the design duo had gone with the originals.

Yes, Madonna has wrinkles, veins, and muscles for which she’s worked long and hard — and all of those things are what make her so fabulous. If they’re going to chose to hire a 52-year-old icon, mother, and super star, they should show her as she is — otherwise, what’s the point?

And additionally, there’s something so wonderfully light, vulnerable, and refreshing about these pre-production images. Now that’s an ad campaign that would have made us stop and stare.

She looks very good in the “before” photos. I agree, they should have used the unretouched photos.

I like the content of this website, but HATE going to it. Every time I want to look at a set of photos, it takes at least double the time that it should. When clicking next, the new photo should open at the top of the screen without having to scroll down in the window to see it each time. This is particularly annoying with the horrible H&M ads that open upon mouse-over. In the process, I have to click next, mouse to the right of the screen to scroll down to see the picture and then mouse back to click next again, and prior to repeat I have to click close each time the annoying H&M ad opens because I accidentally mouse over it. Great content, but I get a lot of daily emails and feel like coming back to this one less each time I visit it.

Hi K8po! Thanks for your feedback. I can’t speak for the H&M ads but if you click “next” on the gallery and then leave your mouse where it / wait, the screen should auto load to the next image and you shouldn’t have to scroll down. That said, we’ve definitely made a note of your thoughts and are working on it! Thanks for being such a dedicated reader!

in answer to ‘what’s the point?’ – ummmm the point is using an icon like Madonna in their ads, while also appealing to a broad audience because, as she is 52, people of all ages may be drawn to the ad. She is recognizable to many different age brackets.
to me the amount of retouching isn’t that bad. i don’t know why people hate retouching so much, it’s not offensive…everybody knows it is done. i mean, if it does not look like the person, or they correct things that didn’t need to be corrected in the first place, then it’s strange. but frankly she looks better without the bulging veins and muscles. i said it. we all have flaws, i am not critiquing madonna for having them at all, but i don’t think there is anything wrong with an ad company doing this work on their model. why does it still shock people. the fact is in a still image you will notice flaws that you would not notice in person, because in person there is movement, there is their personality shining through in how they move, what they say, etc…who they are in person definitely affects how you see them. but in a still image, if there is a flaw that is all you see, it is distracting. taking away those little flaws let’s you focus on the beauty of the image in my opinion. like if someone had bright yellow teeth in a photo, you would lessen the yellow and make them more white – if you made them so white that they looked fake, that would be bad. but by making them whiter you are letting the viewer focus on the photo as a whole, rather than garish yellow tone of the teeth.

I agree. And the supposed to be unretouched photos are the retouched ones. Just saw Madonna in Toronto and her hands are like everybody else, nothing like this. She was georgous.

Is that a kabbalah bracelet or just another vein?
