PHOTOS: Rachel Bilson Thinks Pizza Is A Very Fashionable Food

We don’t know if it was the frozen treats or the affect of being in the presence of the Kaiser, but the spirits at last night’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Karl Lagerfeld‘s Magnum ice cream shorts were high. Seriously, everyone we talked to was such a delight!

While we waited for the kitschy commercials to play over at the Frank Gehry-designed IAC building, we were able to chat with Rachel Bilson (the star of Lagerfeld’s mini-films!) and some of our favorite fashionable men — Christian Siriano, Simon Spurr, and the Costello Tagliapietra boys.

Note: We did not get to talk to Karl! We weren’t even sad about it, because being in the same room as him was an out-of-body experience. And seeing him arrive with Anna Wintour? It was like watching two (powerful, uniformed) aliens descend upon Earth. There was even a waiter carrying a tray with a single goblet of Diet Coke waiting for Karl at the end of the red carpet. Magical.

1.Rachel Bilson

How much ice cream did you eat on set? "I ate a lot of ice cream, I'm not going to lie! But it's really good, so it wasn't a hard job. I really like the Magnum almond, because it has the almond in the chocolate shell to add a little saltiness." What is the most fashionable food? "Pizza! There are so many different kinds, just like there are so many different kinds of fashion."

2.Christian Siriano

What advice do you have for young designers? "If you find that one thing that you're really good at, and it's really your strong point, you work on those skills to make that one thing perfection." What's your one thing? "For me, honestly, it's two things that make money in the business: evening gowns and outerwear. We sell a lot of jackets — you wouldn't expect that!" What do you think of Karl's work with Magnum? "It's exciting to see him do a collaboration like this. It's great because I do a lot of collaborations, and it almost makes it feel like it's okay because other designers are doing things like this, too."

3.Jeffrey Costello & Robert Tagliapietra

If you could do a food-related collaboration, who would it be with? "Probably some kind of burger thing. We're big burger boys. Right now we're kind of in love with our friend's restaurant Seersucker. They have a really great burger — it tastes kind of like an old school, backyard burger. It's pretty yummy." What is the most fashionable food? "It's gotta be foie gras. And it's good, too! Anything fattening is good."

4.Simon Spurr

As an up-and-comer (and CFDA award nominee), do you look up to designers like Karl? "Definitely. Not necessarily the exact designs he does, because obviously womenswear compared to menswear is a big jump, but I think what he has achieved and how he's built a brand is definitely influential for young designers like myself. " What is the one item of clothing men should never wear? "Dungarees."

5.Anna Wintour & Karl Lagerfeld

This is our favorite picture of the night — the body language, the facial expressions, the standard-issue uniforms. And look at their reserved table! So many candles! And Karl has his Diet Coke-filled goblet and a martini glass filled with pineapple. Anna appears to be drinking water. Or straight vodka. Either way, we approve!
