UPDATE: Marc Jacobs Now Offering A Reward For Stolen Collection

It may go down in history as the fashion-iest crime of all time: yesterday, Marc Jacobs revealed that their entire spring collection had been stolen somewhere between Paris and London. Today, they’ve announced a reward and offered up a few more details on what went down.

The good news first: Despite previous accounts to the contrary, the collection was not one of a kind. The New York Times spoke to a “person familiar with the situation” who told them that the stolen collection was made up of “duplicate samples” which had been sent to Europe for press visits. In other words, the actual samples — those needed to get the collection produced and dress no small number of starlets on the red carpet this spring — are safe and well in New York City.

The bad news: the total cost of missing items is around $65,000 — though whether that is wholesale or retail is unclear.

Scotland Yard told the NYT that it was, in fact, investigating the theft of “a quantity of clothing, bags and shoes”, allegedly stolen around 8AM on Wednesday morning near the Mayfair Marc Jacobs store in London. And here’s hoping their investigation gets a little help from Marc Jacobs’ 393,000 Twitter followers: the brand tweeted Wednesday that they were offering a reward in exchange for photo evidence of “any chic truck drivers cruising around Europe dressed in #SS12 Collection”.
