PHOTO: Marc Jacobs and Lake Bell Strip Down, Show Off Tattoos
What do Marc Jacobs and Lake Bell have in common? An infatuation with ink virtuoso Scott Campbell. The designer for the tattoos that adorn his body, and the actress-cum-director because he’s her new hubby/collaborator. The two have both stripped down for New York Magazine’s Fall Fashion issue, with Bell nearly baring ever single inch of her perfect physique on the cover while adorned with temporary ink flowers and Jacobs giving the first up-close-and-personal look at each one of this tattoos—from SpongeBob to Elizabeth Taylor as Martha from Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? wearing 3-D glasses (our personal favorite). All of the body art is done by Campbell, of course, who is covered in tattoos himself.
In reality, Bell doesn’t have a single tattoo (so long as you don’t count the “hand poke” she gave herself at 14) and thinks that despite her partner’s livelihood, she is better off without them. “In a way, I think I am more novel in my absence of tattoos,” she explained. On the other hand, Jacobs will tell you exactly why each of his tattoos are like a second skin. Take for example his Muscle Man Marc tat, which is an homage to South Park. “Being on South Park was the high point of my life so far,” he said.
You can see some of Campbell’s finest work on Jacobs’ and Bell’s pristine anatomies by picking up the issue or heading to Nymag.com.
