PHOTOS: Marchesa Debuts A Limited Edition Tee For The New York Jets
One often associates Marchesa with show-stopping gowns and dresses fit for princesses — not athletic wear. But co-founder Georgina Chapman has just launched a limited-edition tee inspired by the New York Jets, and while this is certainly odd, the label has partnered with Playboy before, so stranger things have happened.
Chapman’s husband Harvey Weinstein is a big Jets fan, and she was approached by Suzanne Johnson, the wife of the team’s owner Woody. The off-the-shoulder jersey tee is blinged out with Swarovski crystals, and retails for $110 on jetsshop.com starting today. Chapman debuted the tee in New York last night in front of Donald and Melania Trump, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and the New York Jets’ Mark Sanchez, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and Greg McElroy.
“It’s been a year in the making and I can’t wait to unveil the Marchesa shirt for the masses, a real fashion forward statement for female fans that elevates team apparel. My design philosophy centers on the dramatic and feminine; beading, embellishments, and lace are an integral part of the Marchesa aesthetic. It was instinctive to approach the Jets piece in the same manner. I am so pleased with the end result and hope fans will wear it with pride.”
In addition to designing the bedazzled tees for the Jets, Chapman created two couture pieces, which aren’t for sale, but are quite pretty to look it, and has looks for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Redskins on the horizon.
We wonder if she made a special one just for Tim Tebow? After all, he’s a certified Vogue model now, so he deserves some sparkle.
