Bridesmaids Star Melissa McCarthy To Launch Plus-Sized Clothing Line

If you haven’t seen Bridesmaids yet, then you won’t know that actress Melissa McCarthy basically stole the show right out from under her co-stars. And now that she’s made millions of people laugh their faces off (and won an Emmy for her efforts in the TV show Mike and Molly), she’s going to address something she’s been thinking about since she was a kid: plus-sized clothing.

McCarthy, who you may remember as the good-natured chef Sookie St. James in Gilmore Girls) told The Hollywood Reporter that her line won’t just fill a void in the women’s apparel market. It’ll fill a chasm that’s wider than most ocean trenches:

“Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle,” she laughs, recalling her recent struggles to find a dress for the Emmys. After combing through “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows,” she opted to channel her teenage passion to become a fashion designer and design her own Emmy gown (with couture dressmaker Daniella Pearl.)

But it can’t be that difficult for McCarthy to find clothing — at red-carpet events, she’s often dressed to the nines and back. Take a look at some her best looks below, and maybe you’ll get an idea of what her line will look like.

I love Melissa McCarthy and was so happy shewas awarded the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy.  I remember while she was on the red carpet talking about the dress and that she had helped the designer design the dress.  The dress she wore was not her best choice.  It was not flattering at all.  She is a beautiful woman and the dress did nothing to enhance her beauty.  I hope that cooler heads prevail so that she come out with a line of plus size clothing that is fashionable and wearable.  Good luck to her.
