Are Pearl Necklaces For Men Really Going To Happen?

Who says only women should wear pearls? One company is trying to change the perception that the fancy little globules of oyster spit aren’t just meant for the ladies by making and marketing pearl jewelry for men.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Jewelmer, a French-Filipino operation that has been making pearl jewelry for women for over 30 years, is trying to create a new market in men’s jewelry. It started applying its South Sea pearls to tie clips, cuff links and even necklaces for men.

But we’re not talking a 16-inch strand of nothing but pearls — these necklaces tend to be one pearl on a leather strand. And to get the idea across that wearing a pearl necklace is, in fact, a masculine thing, they’ve hired famous Filipino athletes and actors as brand ambassadors.

Take a look at the video, and tell us if you see “men’s pearl necklaces” becoming a thing.

I’m surprised at this article! Pearl jewelry for men is definitely not a new market … it’s just that few dare to be more creative and add more selections than the classic surfer choker or traditional conservative cufflinks. Designing pearl jewelry for men is more challenging than pearl jewelry for women. Being simple may be the key but it does not have to be boring…. check out
