Meryl Streep Steals Show At Premiere Despite Emergency Hand Surgery

Meryl Streep attended the New York premiere of her upcoming flick Hope Springs in a bold crimson frock, and thick black belt, and sporting a big white bandage on her left hand — not your traditional red carpet accessory, obviously. The 63-year-old actress suffered a severe cut to her hand while chopping an avocado.

Streep’s injury was so bad that she had to undergo hand surgery in New York. She explains to Showbiz 411:

“They gave me an even bigger bandage. And of course I took it right off when I got home. But now I think I’ll put it back on.”

The injury didn’t seem to hamper her spirit as she gamely took to the red carpet with other stars like Bernadette Peters and Mimi Rogers. Streep kept her left hand inside her dress pocket, but the paps still managed to get a clear shot of the heavily bandaged hand.
