We Know What (& Who) Michelle Obama Wore For Her Reality TV Debut

This week we announced that Michelle Obama would make her reality show debut on ABC‘s tearjerker Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We pondered what the First Lady might wear, and now we won’t have to wait until October to find out. So, who made the cut?

Chris Benz! As far as we know, this is Michelle’s first time wearing the designer’s duds, though Malia rocked sparkly Benz at the Chinese state dinner earlier this year. The pick makes perfect sense when you consider how great Michelle looks in his blue and green dress, and the fact that Benz designed for FLOTUS-approved J.Crew before striking out on his own.

Of course, fashion is anything but the main attraction on Extreme Makeover. Michelle was there to unveil a very special surprise for Navy veteran Barbara Marshall as part of her Joining Forces initiative.

The [Extreme Makeover] bus pulled off, and Marshall’s jaw dropped as she caught her first glimpse of the new Jubilee House, built courtesy of the ABC reality show. Tears flowed as she took in the two-story, 5,000-square-foot house that would serve as a home not only for her family, but also for the countless homeless female veterans she’s dedicated her life to helping.

The first lady and the show’s star designer, Ty Pennington, leaned in close to catch Marshall’s first impression of the new house, but her words were lost among the crowd’s cheers.

A highlight of the experience, the first lady said later, was “watching the faces of the families as they saw their beautiful new home for the first time.”

The house can be seen above, and the Chris Benz-wearing First Lady below:

I love the way Michelle dresses.  I thought that this was a good article on an interview with a top designer on what it takes to dress her: http://blogs.forbes.com/bluecarreon/2011/05/12/what-it-takes-to-dress-michelle-obama/
