PHOTOS: Michelle Obama’s Bold, Patriotic Fourth Of July Dress

First Lady Michelle Obama made a good call yesterday when she slipped into a blue and red dress by French (turned American) designer Sophie Theallet for the Fourth of July.

Theallet, who set up shop in New York after years of being a disciple of (and assistant to) Azzedine Alaia in Paris, has dressed the First Lady on a number of occasions. But the bold floral print of this dress from Theallet’s spring 2011 collection is a big departure from the chunky stripes she normally puts the Obama in. And it’s her wearable and chic clothing that has gotten Theallet so much attention and credibility — to say nothing of her accolades from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. AMERICA. (Although Obama did wear shoes from French brand Lanvin. Wanna rouse some rabble about that?)

Hope you had a great Fourth! Now tell us what you think of the First Lady’s Independence Day frock.
