Michelle Obama Wears Her Own Dress In Harper’s Bazaar
Michelle Obama is profiled in November’s Harper’s Bazaar, and she took her photo shoot wardrobe into her own hands. She picked her long-sleeve raspberry L’Wren Scott dress and blue kitten heels straight from her closet. We like her bold pairing! Does the First Lady have a thing for brights? “Well, you got to get a color pop,” she explains.
The interview focuses on the Obamas’ engagement with the arts, and Michelle admits she once performed in Hansel and Gretel. She didn’t love singing, but she did love what she got to wear: Yes, it was a little tutu fairy costume, and I liked it because of the costume.” She also has some thoughts on Biebs:
I want [my daughters] to feel the power in country as much as they feel it in Justin Bieber. There is some power in the Bieber! But we don’t have Fever. But when Paul McCartney was here singing ‘Michelle,’ I was like, I’m done; I can go home now.
We guess she won’t be wearing Bieber’s nail polish. But did you know that she jammed with Carla Bruni?
That’s the beauty of arts and culture, music and dance. It’s a universal voice. When I travel to other countries, usually the first thing the spouses do is introduce you to their cultures through music and dance. [French first lady] Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is a musician. We gave her a Gibson guitar. When I came to visit, she pulled it out and played the most beautiful song. We were sitting there with family, and we started singing.
We don’t have any musical talents, but we definitely wouldn’t decline an invite to the White House. And Michelle knows exactly what we would think if we were lucky enough to find ourselves there:
‘I can’t believe I’m here.’ And sometimes I think that. I still think that. If you can walk into the White House and come up to the first lady and introduce yourself, if you can perform in front of the president of the United States in the East Room, there is nothing that you can’t do. End of story.
