PHOTOS: Michelle Obama Wears Custom Doo.Ri At South Korean State Dinner

If you’re having dinner with the president of South Korea, may as well wear a dress designed by someone of Korean extraction, right? That’s exactly what happened when Michelle Obama showed up at the White House state dinner with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok, wearing a custom dress by Korean-American designer Doo-ri Chung.

The purple jersey one-shoulder gown is a customized version of cocktail dress that came down the runway just over a month ago. Chung told The Washington Post that her office got a call shortly after her spring runway presentation, requesting a version of the dress that would be appropriate for such a high-level function. She even made the turquoise crystal belt the First Lady wore with the dress:

“I wanted something with a little bit of an embellishment but it’s still very demure,” Chung explained. She did all the work without actually meeting the president’s wife, but worked carefully with her measurements. “We tried to keep it very close to the specs,” Chung said.

Looks like it fits to us! Take a look at the dress below and tell us what you think.

very similar to the dress Oprah wore for her surprise spectacular show.

Very modern, sophisticated and feminine look on the First Lady. Love the emphasis on the feminine look rather than the boring pants suits.
