Tika Sumpter To Ryan Lochte: ‘Send Me Some Stuff!’
Things are moving quite fast for Monika Chiang. She debuted her eponymous line just last year, and now she’s showing her latest collection at Lincoln Center. Chiang presented her spring 2013 collection this afternoon to a room full of editors and buyers, all of whom were clamoring for a look at this season’s offerings, which she referred to as “luxurious athleticism.”
“I feel so honored to be amongst other talented designers. This is where it is, so I’m very excited. It’s kind of surreal, I don’t really want to think about it because I get overwhelmed by everything. So, I just stay here and take little steps at a time. This is the dream.”
You know what else was a dream? The clothes! The collection boasts chic varsity jackets (three words that don’t usually go together), tough moto toppers, beautifully pleated maxi dresses, silk shorts, and lux accessories iterated in faux and real water snake, stingray, and python skins.
“I was in South Africa recently, and was so inspired by the energy and color there. I would get up in the morning and run, I’m not a morning person at all. But I would run, and it’s a good way of seeing and exploring new places that you wouldn’t get to by car.”
Gossip Girl‘s Tika Sumpter also praised Chiang’s looks: ”I love the colors, I love how she kind of mixes masculine and feminine together. The shoes are so dope. They’re not skinny heels, they’re chunky. Comfort! Amen!”
The 32-year-old actress is known for her character as Raina Thorpe on Gossip Girl, and this summer, she appeared on the big screen as Delores Williams in Sparkle, alongside the late Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks. But it seems like Sumpter’s latest gig is trying to nab some looks from Ryan Lochte‘s forthcoming fashion line. ”Well, it depends on what it looks like! Listen, for me, it doesn’t matter who the designer is, it has to look right on me. I don’t care who it is or whatever, it has to look good on me. If it looks good, Ryan, send me some stuff!” Us too, pretty please!
